Its the valve spring dampners that cause the tick. The fix is listed as turning each dampner an 1/8" turn each until noise is gone. I'm a chrysler tech and thats what the TSP states to do and is very effectice just a PITA!

Not counting if, or if not, the dampeners are creating the tick, I got trouble with yer cure.
If ya move a dampener 1/8 turn, that would mean there is 8 possible positions. Seeing there are 8 dampeners on each side, the possible combinations would be in the thousands. And seeing, (to the best of my knowledge), there is no practical way of starting it with the valve covers off, the covers would have to be installed for each try. Without a way of having it running, without the valve cover on, it would take forever IMHO.

It does take forever lol. It doesn't say to do it to all of them it says to narrow done the sound and start there.

Sounds like it would be easier to just replace the valve springs.

start by using an automotive stethoscope, move along the valve cover listening for any increase in noise and start there for adjusting the valve dampners. You have to becareful not to turn the wrong ones either or else you can fix one and cause another to do it too. I've done one of these but have watched another tech do 6-8 of them this way and fixes it everytime.
