Okay, i said last night that I SUCCESSFULLY changed the last 2 cylinders spark plugs. Obviously, I did something wrong. When I got home today, pulling my truck in the garage, I noticed a "Ticking" sound. Got out with the hood opened, and it sounds like it's coming from the #'s 7 & 8 cylinder. What could I have done, or what did I do??? did i break my truck?? Please help soonest !!
Thanks in advance

Rob, I did a search and found this:
quote:
Go ahead and start the motor, and listen for any strange sounds like popping or ticking. If you hear a popping or ticking sound that wasn't there before, then you either have not seated a plug tightly enough, or you have a wire not seated good somewhere. Start with the wires and check that they are pushed on firmly. You may then need to deduce by sound if a plug is not seated good enough.

Did you use the dielectric grease in the plug boots? It really helps insure everything is down on the connections all the way.

From what yer saying, it sounds like a wire is not making a good contact, and u hear the spark arcing. Does the truck run any different?

Jay, I only drove it 1 mile round trip to pick up my daughter from school. Been a little scared in fear of ruining something, but, to answer your question, it doesnt feel or sound (aside from the damn ticking) to run any differently. I will check the plugs and boots and coils this p.m. I will keep you guys posted and most importantly, THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!!
much Mahalo

btw, I'm 6 hours behind the east coast, so when it's evening for you guys, it's early afternoon for me, so i have the chance to try your advice

Same problem, truck not running any differently, pulled the plugs out of 7 & 8 last night, checked gap, boots, and grease. re-installed plugs, boots and coils. fired up truck and STILL the same damn ticking noise!

Thanks

Look at it in the dark, running. See if anything is arcing.

I did that last night in the garage, with everything off and i don't see a thing. I don't have a distributor cap, it has ignition coils, but i have checked and rechecked all of the connections, and i have pulled 7 & 8 off, regapped and lubed and installed. all installs donw with a rubber hose, like advised, and finished off with ratchet. didn't remove fuel rails or anything, i'll tell you what, this is driving me crazy.
thanks in advance

Problem is, has it always been there, and just not noticed, or did chief disrupt something.

Jay, this is definately a new noise. I'm going to try to upload some video to youtube, for your listening pleasure, if you are so inclined. I have gone through this in my head a thousand times. i set all the gaps to .045
I used dielectric grease in the boots, and i put antiseize on the threads. i did one cylinder at a time, i reconnected everything, i didnt move fuel rails or anything, but as i said before, this is definately a new noise.
I appreciate all of your time and help
