Just wondering if anyone has had a bad miss start all the sudden (sounds like it is running on 7 cylinders)with there Hemi, I still have my 03 (99,000 miles now)and has gave me no problems until the other day. Was coming back from Phoenix AZ heading back to Tucson when it started , When I changed the plugs that night the 2 plugs on the passenger side front cycl. was fouled out. I cleaned the throtle body and the pcv valve ,I have checked all the plug wires and they are good ,took it to Dodge dealer and they charged me $110.00 to tell me nothing (they couldn't find what was wrong without more money) , I have called some buddies and they told me that some 03's had valve spring problems ? And one thing that is strange is that the front injector on the same cycl. is running 60 deg. hotter than the rest of them. Any help would be great, don't have the money right now for someone else to try to rob me . Thanks

Well i can tell you this, i have my hemi stripped to the block and those same 2 cylinders your talking about, on mine the pushrods were extremely worn which was causing my valves not to function properly, i hope this helps you, Oh ya change your valve springs, all 16 of them, try the 6.1 exaust on all of them, HEMI's seem to like them. goodluck1

Thanks for the info, hope I don't have to do internal work but it looks like I will. Really don't have the money to do what I would like to do so I just want it to get me through another year if possible with no other problems if possible, what kind of money do you think it would take to fix the problem it has now if it is just the valve springs on that cycl. ? And can you change the spring on the head without removing the head,I have done it on my old Buick Grand National before with just a spring compressor and a air compressor to hold valve up.

well sounds like you have changed springs before and if your doing your own spark plugs on your truck then your half way there. springs will run you 75.00 and some new pushrods are like 1.00 a piece. Have you checked your fuel pressure, or tryd a compression test?

Yes, run a compression test. If zero, or low, you have a broken valve spring, or the top of the piston is starting to deteriorate. If comp is good, swap coil from a good cylinder, and see if any difference. If not, swap injector from know good cylinder.

Going to do a compression test tonight or tomorrow, so it is possible to get in there with a spring compressor on the hemi heads, good news; if I have to pull heads I will more than likely find a lower mile newer model hemi engine to drop in it and sell the broken one. How new can I go up on the long block and still work with my computer, are they all the same up to 2008?

it should not be a sweat changing your springs with the heads off, but if you go with them on, manly makes an affordable spring compressor available at moesperformance.com. I would first try to identify your problem before ordering anything. I beleive the 2003 hemi uses a 16 tooth toner ring on the crank and the other years are 32, that and egr up to 2005. The 06-07-08 all have mds. I beleive with the tonerring, egr, and mds it will require a different pcm, but heres the difference in the springs, the new on the right, yours on the left. goodluck1

Found a guy with a rolling chassie(engine, trans, rear end ,wire harness and computers etc. the whole chassie) from 2005 2500 ram mega cab that wants 2500.00 for all with only 17,000 miles, going to see if he will separate or come down on price. What kind of project would that be you think, easy or hard. Found another guy with 2005 5.7 hemi with rod knocking 50,000 miles wants 500.00 for it. didmiss
