I've got a set of cal-tracs waiting to be installed, and I want to lower the back of the truck a little with out using a flip kit. I'm going to get a set of drop shackles, but I'd like a little more drop than that. I don't do any towing, so I was thinking about removing the overload spring. How hard is it to do, and will it help me hook up any better?

AEM Brute Force CAI, Superchips MaxMicro Tuner, Taylor Shorty wires, Black Magic 180 fan, OBX Longtubes with dual Super 44 Flowmasters Dumped, TCM mod & Motive 4:56 gears.

ZEX Nitrous system, Nitrous Outlet TB Plate, and MSD Retard Controller are going on next, followed by Cal-tracs and Drop Shackles...

You have some work cut out for you. Not to bad.
I just changed my leafs out completely with sport leafs.
The Cal-Trax will take up the slack as far as wheel hop due to lost leaf tension. Love mine.
Hooking up? Let's just say it's proportional.

As of right now, my truck hooks pretty good. All that will change, I'm sure, when I get my nitrous kit put in...

Removing the overload spring isnt too bad, as long as you can get the bolt out of the centre of the springs. I just cut the nut off with a grinder and replaced it with a regular bolt, so have a few spare before you start.

arocketman,

What leafs do you have? Did you have to get different front eye bushings for your Cal-Tracs?

Does anyone have an idea as to what size the center bolt is? I've looked around on the net and I can't seem to find anything. 5/16 seems to be a common size, but I'd like to know for sure so I can go pick up some extras before I tackle this...

I got my Cal-tracs installed this weekend, and I love them.....I can really tell a difference in the way the truck launches. I added the drop shackles too, and they helped to bring the back-end down to earth a little more. I ended up not removing the overload. I didn't like the idea of tearing into the spring pack..lol. I will give a word of advice to anyone who wants to put the Cal-tracs on. The front leaf spring bushings were a MAJOR Pain in the A** to get out for me. My uncle, cousin and I ended up burning the rubber out and then cutting the metal out with a chissel. I don't really think they mean for them to ever be replaced, but that's the kind of thing you have to get around when you hot rod stuff I guess. Despite the trouble I had with the bushings, I'd reccomend the cal-tracs....I really like mine.
