I want to install a CB Radio in my truck but I need help with a few things like location etc. I have an idea on where I want it but I also want to kinda hide the antenna or like some normal antennas put it in the black plastic area under the windshield wipers. This picture is showing an idea I had for an area to put the CB Radio so it isn't in the way.

I don't have any pics of my install; I'll have to take a couple. Mine is located right about where my right knee points to under instrument cluster. The mic holder is in place above the ash tray. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow. However, I have not gotten an antenna for it yet. That got put on the back burner plus I just couldn't find one I liked (don't want a magnet mount).

The location looks good. As far as the antenna if you put it near the engine compartment you will pick up a ton of electricial interference from the engine.

I do believe they still sell am/fm/cb antennas but being dual they dont have the distance of regular antennas.
Here are some on ebay. am/fm/cb

heres another #2

Depending on the size of your cb radio, ever think about mounting it in the cubby hole if ya have one?

Hope this helps.

There are alot of options for antenas out there you could always go with a motor cycle one that would be small and powerful

Under this text is another interior shot of my truck. It is a little dirty but I haven't had much time to clean it recently because of work and school. Are there CBs that would fit in the hole next to the 4wd knob? Also I do want to kinda hide the CB antenna but interference could cause the whole project to be worthless so is there another spot I might be able to hide it? In the future I want to install a roll bar with lights so I don't want to obstruct the spot lights. Also to give you an idea of the roll bar I want I'll link the one but the picture has it on a chevy.

Mount the antenna right on top of that roll bar, they make ones with lights in them the whole length.a set of dual lighted antennas one on each outter point of bar might look cool......

Ace.. that's a dodge he's mounting it into... Big Grin

I've been fighting with where to put mine as well for the last 4 yrs. I haven't used it since I sold my last truck and didn't want to drill any holes in this one but I might make a post hole mount.

See.. unfortunately I need a strong antenna for mine because of my amp - similar to the one below:

It's bolted to the top of my radio - I can talk a "LITTLE" farther than most people on a stock CB.. heheheehe

I had a friend suggest using one of the old style pole Cell Phone mounts that they had for the older cell phones - or like that pole mount lap top mount the cops have in some of their cars, it bolts to the center hump and nicely holds your radio.

I don't use my cup holder and was thinking of getting that off and somehow mounting it there instead.

Our Cobra CB is mounted in the storage box between the 2 seats. You can't even see it, and the power cord goes to the power outlet, so you don't even see the power cord when it's unplugged.

As to the antenna, we have the Wilson Little Wil, and so far, it's 'Awesome'. We mount if on the hood, as it has the powerful magnet on the bottom of the antenna mount. We run the cord thru the window, but we're going to run the cord thru the black area at the windshield, and we'll use a grommet that keeps it from leaking.

At the Bonneville Salt Flats in August, we could pick up everything, and on the way home, we could pick up the truckers talking to each other. If we get a "Smokey" alert from the truckers, we know to 'Slow Down', maybe???

Hope this helps.

All you need now is a good VFO mounted in your truck to go with the linear amp - tune to SSB, find the frequency with the VFO and talk anywhere to someone with the same set-up on 11 meters. Of course do as I say, not as I do.
