If I remember right your new truck is an 08. Pop the center dash off and ite into the accessory lights. That way they will come on with the parking lights. I don't remember the color of the wires but just find the wires feeding the dash lights, ashtray, etc. thumb2
My truck has the console so I doubt that my pictures would help you any. I put blue LED's under the glove box, cubby hole under the radio and drivers side dash.

The 04's are easier. Some of us bought a light kit from Art at Henson and then added to it.
I put three lighted rocker switches in the top of the cubby hole. Added a little light to it and allowed me to turn which sets of lights on that I wanted....one for 47 blue LED's under the hood, underbody LED's and a 9" neon behind the STR hood scoop.

Not the best picture but maybe you can see what I'm talking about.

I have mine spliced into the accessory lighter plug on a switch, this way they only go on and off with the key.

I have all of mine tied into my distribution/fuse block for my amp and have different switches. 1 for my undercar kit, 1 for my dash LED's 1 in each air vent, 2 in cubby hole and 2 over cupholder/ash try. I have more switches and lights going in.

When you take the center bezel out you will see a molded connector hang there with a black and a white wire.(i think this is for a ashtray or drink holder light)Just tie into it and the light's will come on with your dash light's and will also work with your dimmer.

I have a 2003 2500 QC and I didnt have it.
So what I ended up doing is plugging it in my radio connector.

I have a after market radio and I didn't use the illumination wire for the radio so that's what I used.
I can dim the LED too works great. thumb2
