I am moving from Central California to Niagara Falls Canada and am wondering what route to take. I normally take 80 when I drive back east, but at this time of year I know 80 is not the best route. I have been told 40 will be fine but want some more feedback on the issue. I can also take 10, but that adds alot of miles and if the weather is ok on 40 I would prefer to go that route. Any feedback is appreciated, I will have the moving truck, my truck and travel trailer, and my Charger convoying together, so I don't want to encounter too much weather. Thanks Zach.

Zak, I've traveled across country on 40 during this time of year - LONG LONG time ago - and all was fine. Best thing to do is to look at the week ahead forcast for the states you'll be driving through.

Did it by 10 also and it was ok too but...

It took me 4 days to cross Texas!! GAWD! LOL

Went through El Paso and then across the widest part of the state.....

My parents live in Maryland and just drove to Vegas for the SEMA show. They went out I-40 with no problems.

If you are moving to the Canadian side of the falls you may consider getting off of I-40 in Tennessee and going up I-75 and crossing the border in Detroit.

That allows you to avoid the PA mountains on I-79. Plus the QE2 highway is a pretty easy drive across Ontario.

Black Magik has a good point about missing the PA hills. I checked with my dad who runs cross country in his tractor trailer and he agreed with this route: I-40 to Oklahoma City, I-44 to St. Louis, I-70 to Columbus, I-71 to Cleveland, I-90 to Buffalo, I-190 to Niagra Falls.

Thanks for all th replys guys, I will be taking 40 now that I know it will be ok. I like the part about crossing in Detroit and running up the Canadian side, it shaves off a few hundred miles, but that border crossing is tuff. I have crossed there a couple times and they gave me such a hard time everytime I crossed. I would like to miss as many mountains s possible so I can keep my gas mileage up as much as possible, it is going to be a hefty gas bill with three vehicles. I am leaving on the 30 of november or 1 of december. I will get all the major towns in the states along 40 and keep track of the weather so I can adjust my route accordingly. Thanks again.
