i was disappointed to see the new ram didn't do so well in the comparison tests that motorweek did with the ram,ford,chevy gmc nissan toyota...The f150 actually got best scores overall and it had the smallest engine in the group...go figure. they said the ram didn't disappoint in handling and power but wasn't as competitive in off road or towing, ................chris

yep i know but when you look at the big picture, chevy and gmc used the 6.2 powerplant with the 6 speed, ford has a new 6 speed and just plain built to tow but are slow turds that look really ugly, tundra is a big POS that handles like complete crap but can tow high loads, but for how long????? the tailgates are so shitty they fall off if you let them slam down open they also have a 6 speed and 4.30 gears in that test, the ram and titan used 5 speeds with their 5.7 and 5.6 liter engines, if chevy used the 5.3 i think the outcome would have been F-150, Ram, Toyota, Chevy, GMC, and then Nissan

100%. Chevy did not send their "normal" 5.3 engine to the test... that 6.2L engine only makes up less than 10% of their truck sales (VortecMAX), and comes with a hefty upgrade price tag.

All the judges were paid off like normal!! You cannot believe all the reports since someone always has some against the other companies!!

come on now guys all manufacturers were told send there biggest powerplants and they did dodge only offers a 5.7 thats not chevy's fault and if ford has a really good tranny then good for them i still think ram looks the best and is a good truck if they could just rip out this poc tranny i have in mine i would be thrilled....mine drives so bad the dealer is willing to do a upgrade that was stopped awhiel back for me ......whats that tell ya....chris

To be correct Motorweek has never been nice to Chrylser. They always seem to go for Ford or GM.

Dodge screwed up by making a 5spd transmission that uses only 4 of them. A dedicated "downshift" gear is just useless, especially since it's less aggressive than 2nd gear. The Hemi makes great top end power - why try to negate it with a weaker gear?

Did Dodge improve the design for 09? Of course not! The engine got major advances but the transmission is a carryover. 5 gears would be fine if they were spaced so that they were all usable.

Give us a 4.11 rear standard, closer spaced gears in 1-3, and make 5th a nice overdrive for highway use. The truck has plenty of power it they'll just harness it properly.

IVe never heard of any upgrades???? other than software enhancments that didnt fix the complaints and dodge stopped updating the TCM software. And i agree, normally a 5 speed has 3 reduction gears 4th is direct drive and one overdrive. That would rock!!!

WRONG

there are 5 forward gears.... and one EXTRA kick down gear (2nd prime).... making 6 total gears.

o 1st 3.00:1
o 2nd 1.67:1
o 2nd Prime 1.50:1
o 3rd 1.00:1
o 4th 0.75:1
o 5th 0.67:1

That may be the deal with the gears but its still the one thing keeping the truck from being great....Chris
