Does 11.3 sound right for my truck? I get that loaded or empty, towing or not, highway or city.

Are you going by what the over head says and are you reseting it after every fill up? I'm getting 12 turning 33 inch tires w/ 3.73 gears.

Doesn't sound right to me especially since you have a 1500 with MDS. I'm getting between 13 and 14 with my moose. I'd expect you'd get 14-18ish even with your Mega Cab.

NO MDS on 1500 Mega Cabs. Same truck/frame/rear end as the 2500's, and uses the 545 tranny.

I don't get it guys? I'm getting 15-18 around town and 18-22 on the highway. I don't have MDS. Are you guys babying it to much? I drive mine like I stole it all the time. Now that's not the over the head thing thats hand calculated. Just last fill up for the week 143 miles / 7.204 gal = 19.8495 at $3.609 = $26.00

I hand calculate at every fill up. I have no idea what the overhead even says, because I leave it on the trip odometer setting so I can keep an eye on the regular odometer for service intervals. That, and I don't trust the mileage calculator on the overhead as far as I can throw it.

I have kind of babied it. I drive exactly 5 miles one way to work. 3 miles of that is on a 4 lane highway. I almost always get her up to 55 (gently) and set the cruise. You saying I should drive it like I stole it?

Same here and no MDS, no overhead thingy and I like to cruise at 75MPH on the freeway...

You all with the low mileage have problems. As for me, about the only way I can improve my mileage is by getting those tuned headers that are being offered in the other thread here, and my guess is that will be a substantial increase in both mileage and performance!!!

Duane went out of his way to get the offer for us, and now all we need to do is get enough of us to commit to the headers. This offer is going to dry up and blow away if enough of us don't jump on it pretty soon...

I have under 8k miles on mine, and have gone from 10.9 to 11.6 hand calculated so far. I am betting that highway mileage is ALOT better than this, I just need an excuse for a long highway run with no trailer on to see.

Yes! thumb2 These truck are so dam heavy it takes allot to get them moving and I found put the pedal to the floor on take off and you get to speed and let off to maintain. Figured that out with the 2003 I had. When i first had it I babied it and got sh!t for mileage and found a thread that talked about "drive it like you stole it" and my truck(03) started to get much better mileage and just keep it up with the new one.

I put a few miles on mine today driving it to Indy on I-70 and noticed a difference just watching my gas gauge. I reset the overhead just to see and it was showing 2 mpg's better than what it normally reads. I got it to hit 16 at one point. The 3.73's w/ 33's don't really help much either. I don't do a lot of city driving; driving on the back roads is what kills mine.

we have to take into consideration that I live in a mountainous area, and my driving is evenly split between in town driving, and a round trip of roughly 8 miles on a four lane. One direction on the 4 lane has a mile long hill climb, but the majority of it is flat since it's in a valley.

I drove it harder this week than usual, like you guys said, and I let it go a little further than usual too. I usually fill up at half a tank, but I let her get down to a quarter tank this time. My mileage was down to 1085 mpg this time Confused I guess it is what it is. If I was worried about mileage I would have bought a Prius. Funny, thing...a Prius parked in front of me in a parking lot the other day. For a brief moment I considered just driving over it...I mean, they are really nothing more than a speed bump, right? 2funny

Same here on the mountains (Green Mountain State Big Grin). Also you may not be broken in yet. And spainy79 with that set up you are right not going to happen.

Like you said if I was looking for mileage I would have bought a Prius NOT Big Grin. If I did buy one I would need a crane and a bulldozer just to get out of that thing! Big Grin

It's a truck for goodness sake. I just have a little better mileage then some. Till I put the plow on. thumb2

Been averaging 13-14 in mixed driving with mine, haven't had any highway trips with it empty yet but have seen anywhere from 10-14 towing an open 18' trailer with a car on it depending on speed and weather.

Monitoring mpg on a few 60-70 mile local trips where the truck has been empty I've seen 17-19mpg. That's cruising around 55-60 on the hwy.

I get 36mpg on 87 octane driving to and from work, but that's in my beater Neon Smiler The ram usually only comes out to play on the weekends when there is stuff to haul or tow.
