I'm a novice for sure with car repairs. I'm capable of doing things like plug changes, did my CAI, car stereos, etc. I'm no dolt with tools but I don't normally play with the fluids, the dealer does my oil changes because I'm lazy and they are free for the life of my truck. Front and rear diffs at the dealer, $180 each!!! What's involved?

It is very easy to change the rear just pull the cover off clean out the inside put sealer (try to find one that will set with oil on it) on put the cover back on... The front diff is the same unless you have a skid plate which is the only other thing to take care of. goodluck1

Put a cover on with a drain and fill plug and save your self some work the next time it's time to change the fluid.

TooCool.. i like that setup... but my OCD makes me remove the cover, spray everything with carb/brake cleaner, inspect, clean off the magnet... etc... same with the tranny... wonder how big a deal it is to NOT clean off the magnet?

well I "lazied out" and had the shop that did my brakes do my front and rear diffs. They only charged $60 a differential (vice the $180 a differential the dealership wanted)and they drained, cleaned, regasketed and used Royal Purple gear oil and whether I needed it or not, put the additive into the rear diff.

TooCool...i also like that cover! Sweet look. I like that better than any I've seen. Does it up your capacity as well?

The job is easy. Like said, pull the covers off. I use a table top grinder with the wire wheel attachment to clean off the old gasket. Clean it up with brake cleaner real good. Spray everything out with brake cleaner. Wipe it all off. I used 26B (orange tube) high temp gasket sealant. Run a small bead about 1/4" or so around the outside of the midline of the diff mounting surface. And around each hole of course. I stay just on the outside of the midline so when you tighten the diff cover down and the sealant squeezes down you are less likely to get any inside the diff. Make sense? Just a tip my neighbor gave me. He does major offroad truck building, so I always ask him. Cross tighten bolts! Just like anything else. Buy a gear lube pump to pump in the lube. If you use RP or Amsoil, you won't need any additive. Others I am unsure of. But I know for a fact that these two you will NOT need it because I have ran both without. Hope that helps.

It's made by TA Performance. It does more that just look pretty, it actually helps to support the two caps that hold the carrier (center section) in place.
