I've been reading that with the Detroit Truetrac you want to use dino lube and not synthetic. Any info is appreciated.

One thing I read was a guy was going to run dino during the 500 mile break-in and then switch to synthetic.

I believe it's the Alburn that has to use a non-synthetic gear oil.

I really can't see any reason not to run synthetic with a DTT. By the way, I'm also getting the PML cover for the extra capacity and ease of lube changes.

The TA Performance cover is also a good choice. It actually does more than just look pretty.

Well, I bought 3 quarts of Mobil 1 75w-140. I'll see what my install guy says about it when my parts come in.

You'll need to add the LSD additive to the Mobil 1 gear oil if you have a limited slip rear.

Even with a limited slip with no clutches? The Truetrac has none. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZmsY2YvVsc '05 RCSB 1500 SLT 5.7 Hemi Ram - 4" ram air from fog light hole - Amsoil drop-in filter - AirAid MIT - Taylor shorty wires - FM 50HD SI/SO 3" Magnaflow y-pipe - General Grabber UHP 295/50 20 tires - Superchips Flashpaq 3815 - Motive 4.56 gears - Detroit Truetrac differential Lakewood traction bars - PML differential cover - Best reaction time .011 @ Bowling Green Best 1/8 mile 9.28 @ Bowling Green - Best 1/4 mile 14.51 @ Bowling Green - ETs before gears, DTT, traction bars, improved ram air, and y-pipe |

I called Eaton/DTT last year about something else and asked the same question. He put a little emphisis on the "don't run synthetic" statement. He said the unit needs some friction to operate correctly. Synthetic is too slick and can cause the unit not to operate correctly.
-But in their DTT owner's manual it says: "The TrueTrac differential is designed to operate in those lubricants recommended by the vehicle/axle manufacturer for conventional differentials". |

Yep, I read that too. It's pretty confusing. I'll go with what my installer says after my parts get here. I still have the receipt for the Mobil 1 synthetic and can take it back.
