I just had the 2nd set of Richmond gears instulled in my 03 1500 9 1/4 posi 4:10
they are noisy at 15 mph to 25 mph and than again at 30mph to 35 mph kind of a hi pitch noise. The set up is right on the nose instull by a pro. Summit Racing replaced the set once and will replace again ,

Yes I was there both times, the depth was spot on, and the backlash. The Richmond techline person seem to think its some kind of harmonic thing. Any Ideas

How was the depth determined?

The depth was set with a snapon pinion set gauge and backlash with a dail indacator. This was not tech 1st rearend, he is known as the best the area. He has owned his shop with two more techs for 30 years, before that worked with me as a GM tech for 10 years. beleave me this rear end is set up on the money.

Hey, the only way I can help ya, is by asking questions.
Getting two bad gear sets in a row, is highly unlikely. The case, or the carrier may have distortion in it.

I don't think so, the MOPAR gears that we took out did not make any noise at this speed. they were noise at 45 to 60 mph . as we took them out we checked backlash, it showed a .004 run out. The 1st set of Richmonds had .001 run. out, the 2nd set had no runout. the case was replaced. about 10K ago.
