Hi guys.

I have a big problem with my Ram. Last week my differential destroyed after 62000miles. I drove a short distance backwards, shift into D and pull the throttle. It made a loud bash and the car stopped. I could shift into each gear but the did not move any inch.

Here are some pictures what I found out.
http://i399.photobucket.com/al...3/Dimi1982/Diff1.jpg

http://i399.photobucket.com/al...3/Dimi1982/Diff2.jpg

http://i399.photobucket.com/al...3/Dimi1982/Diff3.jpg

http://i399.photobucket.com/al...3/Dimi1982/Diff4.jpg

When I open the four screws I can put the differential out?? Because at the moment I can not move the car. The wheels are blocked because of the pinion inside the differential.

Anybody had the same probleme?? I couldn't believe that this can happen Frowner

Eeker I have never seen a pinion shaft snap like that. Obviously a casting problem. What did Dodge say? That's something that should outlast the truck.

My 04 came with a 7/70 PTW. Of course as he said he is in Germany so it probably does not apply.

Thats deff a metal issue with the pinion, sucks bad. Just get another gear and install it or have it installed, to get the truck to move, you need to pull the axle shafts and pull the carrier out of the diff to remove the pinion reminance. drunksquid

That sucks! hate to see that issue!

You don't have to remove the wheels or brakes, altho it will be easier with the wheels off. Remove the spider gear pin, push the axles in slightly, remove the 2 clips, pull the axles back out 6" and remove the carrier. Let a mechanic do it if you're not experienced.

Thanx 07hemisport. I only want to get the stuff out because the wheels are blocked and I don't know how to get the car to a repair shop. The new stuff a mechanic should do.

Yeah SRT diff would be great.

Could I use this one as a new diff??

You will prolly have to tow it. Once you take the diif. out ,there is nothing to hold your axles in.

Ok thanx. I didn't know that. I try to get the broken pinion out and but everything together again only without the pinion. So the wheels should not longer be blocked and the axles holding in. That right??
