So theirs really no straight answer on here how much the rear diff takes. I saw 2 1/2, 3 and even 4 qts. I really need to know how much to buy. I always thought you filled it till it came out. If thats the case how many qts is that? Or how many qts to properly fill? Thanks yall.

I believe three quarts is more than enough. Seems like it's 2.7 quarts. I changed me cover to a PML because I don't think you can "suck" all the fluid out, and dropping the cover each change is a PITA. The PML cover is expensive but allows more fluidfor a cooler rear end. Also use a good oil...I use Amsoil severe gear..no need to use an additive for the anti-slip lock either.

Regardless of your fluid choice this a great source for all your truck fluids.

http://www.amsoil.com/scripts/....dll?amsoiloaf:index

I just did my truck, and it took 2.5 quarts. Calls for 4.9 pints. 1 qt = 2 pts (i had to look that up Confused)

Royal purple and Amsoil have the additive included, other fluids will require a limit slip additive.

Hope that helps.

3 will get it done. Mine held around 2.5ish. I think technically you are supposed to fill it 1/4" or something below fill plug, but if you try to get the recommended 2.6qts in there it is running out. So I just do it til it is at the fill plug. Same with the transfer case. Front diff is below 2 qts. 1.7qt I believe.

proper differential level is level with the fill hole. i've been wanting to change my diff fluid for awhile and i want amsoil but i keep reading where people say the limited slip is already in there but then again, people are saying you still have to add it even with amsoil. which is right?? and which weight to use too? 75w-110 or 75w-140? they say you can use the lighter weight oil but im kind of leary about not using manufacture's specs

What's a Mod??

i think im going to go with the 75w-140. the 110 is supposed to be better on mpg but its a lighter oil so go figure. im going to get the amsoil ls additive too and put it in there just in case because i'd rather be safe than sorry. there arent any dealers near me so its not like i can just go and "pick up" some amsoil

What's a Mod??
