I have searched for a few days in both the SC and Diablo sections for which programmer would fit my needs best. Currently I have a 2005 QC 4x4 Daytona 1500 with a K&N Intake System. I have not modified anything other than the normal mods that come with the Daytona Edition and the K&N. My big concern is that I have not seen anyone post anything either way for issues/concerns with AWD trucks. Should the fact that my truck is AWD play a major factor in my choice?

It may not be a big deal but I want to ask before I purchase one. I am looking at maintaining the CAI and whichever programmer I choose for a while, possibly changing to shorty wires and NGK plugs but nothing major for about a year or so. After that (and getting a company vehicle for my daily driver!) I may look at more serious mods to include FI but that I have not decided on.

MPG is not the big concern, better/best performance is.

I am looking to finalize my choice and order in the very near future (days). Anything will help.

Thanks!

AWD does not really affect anything. My wife's Durango is AWD and I have no problems with it using SC... goodluck1 in your choice!!

A programer wont effect the AWD, you'll be ok. As for which programer to get, well I might be biased because I have the Predator but if you ever do any mods like a cam or heads all you'll have to do is take it to a CMR dyno programer and get it dialed in to get the most out of it. The predator also has lots of tweaks you can do to help you dial in your truck as is. If you read through the posts you'll find guys that have made the switch from SC or other programers and never looked back. Go for the Predator, you wont be disapointed, I'm happy with my choice thumb2

iagree I'm sticking with SC because I have no plans for a cam or heads so I'd never take advantage of the Preditor's options. Cost for either SC or Diablo is a wash. If you choose SC go with the 3865 as it's the upgrade path for the 3815. goodluck1

I know FSU_Ranger has thought about a turbo or supercharger for his truck. Would the predator be able to help later if he got one of these on his truck?

short answer - yes...

Longer answer - like I said before he will be able to take it to a dyno shop that has CMR software and get it dialed in.

I DID choose the Predator and it is in the mail. Should be here NLT Wed.

I am taking my truck on a 4-5 hour drive that night, anyone see any issues with programming it before a long drive? I will also be towing a boat if that factors in.

Not sure which tune yet either. My truck ran great with the SC 87 tune, I might start out there. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

I've heard it's better to reset the computer to get the most out of the programmer. Just leave your negative battery cable off for about 30min.

Congrats! on the Predator. Let me know how you like it, might look at switching mine out.

Hey Airborne! Sorry I meant to answer sooner got caught up in work, anyway, you don't need to reset your computer, while programming it that resets it. You will be fine in programming then driving, even towing. I would go a head and put the 87 tune on so you can make a direct comparison with your old tunner, it will take some time to learn the tune though so don't expect to see the results right away.

Let us know what ya think...

All the way troop........ Hooah!

Got my programmer… and nothing. What a disappointment.

Evidently Diablo is having issue with the “write failing (1)” on my particular setup. I spoke with Mike at Diablo in West Palm beach and he said that it was a problem they were already tracking. He was very friendly and wants to get my truck into their shop but it is 3.5 hours away and with work I am not sure when I will be able to make the trip. I am trying to work something out with a friend to take it over in 1-2 weeks but until then I am out of luck and stuck with a useless Diablo. (Very painful to look at)

My particular setup is a 2005 Daytona Ram QC 4x4 with all time AWD. I have no additional (after-market) electronics that could be drawing power. (i.e. electric fans, tac, etc.)

Has anyone else had this problem?

What should I expect/ask from Diablo when they have my vehicle?

Thanks,

Thanks.

For those interested in this issue - I have posted a similar thread with more information in the Diablo Documentation thread. Hopefully someone will shed some light on the problem. I am anxious to see how well the Predator performs to the SC.

If they're wanting your truck to try and figure out the problem for the programmer as a whole and not only your truck, I'd see if they wouldn't provide you with a rental car for the period they have your truck. I would ask them for that much. Otherwise, I'm not sure. Sorry to herar about the programmer. just keep a positive mind that it'll be worth it when it does work! Bet the misses is happy about that money sitting there! Lol!

Yeah between the RocketFish (home stereo) thing and the programmer both not working, she's not very amused with my purchase history.

Did you ever get everything worked out with your programmer? Is it working now?

The OP contacted me last week about bringing his truck in for testing. Unfortunately, the engineer who I needed to figure this out was on his first ever vacation in 3 years here.

Of course.

He is back today, and my offer will stand until we fix this to take care of it as soon as we can get a truck in here that exhibits this issue.

As for a rental, it is not necessary. We do make a habit of borrowing vehicles from people, and thus have a few vehicles here that we provide as loaners.

The OP said he would be gone for a bit (deployed?) but that he would contact me when he got back, and we'll get this fixed ASAP.

Thanks
Mike

Finally got down to see Mike and he was awesome. They had a truck ready for me to use and fixed my issue in just a few hours. I wish I could have gotten down there sooner, but the wait was definitely worth it!

Having tried both the SC and now the predator, I have to say the predator feels better. Unfortunately the all time AWD kept me from getting dyno numbers while down there, but the truck definitely feels way better!

Thanks again to Mike and his team!
