I got the 3865 for my 03. I was told its replacing the 3815. Its smaller than the old one and has 4 buttons instead of 3 but no performance differance

The 3865 is in a smaller more modern casing. Much easier to bring it with you or keep in the truck.

You will need the more up to date 3865 to get all the new tranny updates and future upgrades. The 3815 is great for the 04 but is limited by the amount of memory it can store. Just imageine the amount of RAM you could get 4 years ago vs what you can get now, amazing how much storage you can put into such a small chip nowadays!
