My wife's father (Korean) has been hospitalized for the last couple of months due to his body shutting down. On Thursday, last, we started receiving calls of his condition taking a turn for the worse (pneumonia and fluid in the lungs). On Friday evening we made the decision to bite the bullet and send my wife to Korea for the second time this year. On Monday morning we were able to get tickets into Pusan, Korea and I put her on a plane on Tuesday morning for a Wednesday evening arrival time in Pusan. Our decision included the possibility of her not being able to be home for Christmas, so her ticket has her returning in mid-January.

Though her father was no longer able to speak, she spent the night talking to and praying with him. All of his children, and most of his grandchildren were in attendance when he passed at 9 AM, Thursday morning, Korea time. After cremation, the funeral will be Saturday, on the small island where he grew up.

Please keep her family in your prayers as they go through this difficult time.

YBIC,
DuWayne Greer

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, folks.

I'm finding it hard to believe how much this is affecting me. Due to language barrier and that I took his daughter away 22 years ago, we really didn't know each other very well.

When I talked to my mother-in-law last night, I started bawling like a baby. My oldest daughter, away at college, took it pretty hard also, when I talked with her last night. We still have one in high school, so we are going to be spending Christmas without Mom this year.

I guess it will be time to fire up the web-cam.

So what have we learned in 2 millennia?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."
- Cicero - 55 B.C.

Apparently, nothing......

"How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young,
compassionate with the aged,
sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and the strong.
Because someday in life you will have been all of these."

George Washington Carver
