Could someone direct me to a top-notch plug-n-play high output alternator for an '05 5.7? I thought I had seen one on HTC a while back and it looked very good from the description; it wasn't cheap - maybe $300 to $500 just can't remember. Also if you have this experience what are the potential problems associated with using a high output alternator? Thanks.

I found a site: www.dcpowerinc.com that shows a 260 amp specifically for the 5.7 Ram and it is damn expensive - anybody know anything about the company or their products?

too bad they will not work correctly with our trucks. Anything much bigger than the option 160a causes problems with the computer or the computer has a problem with.

the PCM doesn't care how many amps the alternator it's putting out it's the higher voltage that could be a problem but it's the PCM that controls the voltage.
i don't see why you would have a problem with a high output alternator they are simply the stock ones biffed up

I would have to go find them but there have been several threads on here and on DT about the higher output stuff not working correctly with the computer.

Thanks for your input HTC guys; I'll spend the money but as you've mentioned I don't need trouble. I want plug-n-play and NO PROBLEMS at all. The most important feature is high output at idle.
Here's another question for the gurus; I've heard of a manual 'high idle switch' where you can install it and just increase your idle speed when you're sitting still and really need the boost. Anybody know of such an option and how to do it? Thanks Again. HemiFun05.

I would start with the 160a alternator from a Durango. I am sure you can get a high idler from there.. They are nice. I had one on my 2500 Cummins.

You can also add a second battery. YOu can get the tray and everything from a 2500 or 3500 from Dodge.

your best bet will be the 160 amp with an over drive pulley, a second battery is just another load in the charging system but a good battery like Optima, kinetik or Shuriken will help, they have a higher capacity and charge allot faster that a regular battery.
Superchips have a high idle feature but it doesn't work on all the models, i think its just on diesel

THAT is certainly interesting information to know since I'm already using a SC 3815. If anyone knows for sure if it is an option for the 2005 5.7 Hemi Ram please chime in? How about other programmers? I would upgrade and/or change programmers for this feature. HemiFun05.
