I know there has been some disscusion of painting the under cover but haven't heard anything on the results of it. Has anyone painted one and how well did it turn out? I am mixed on going hard shell or going with the
access laredo. I thought it might sway my decision if I new about the results and cost of painting one. I did see a pic of one on DTW. I'm afraid the paint wouldn't hold on the texture of the under cover, Any thought's or opinions? 07 Mazda 6 212hp V6 05 Hemi Ram 345hp V8 |

Well I have had this same discussion with a paint shop. They ststaed because of the textured finish, it would not look right and the paint has a hard time adhering to the texured parts. So I have been told.

You can request instructions from Undercover. They don't necessarily recommend it, but it can be done. BTW, the body shop has to sand it smooth first. I do know that Dupont makes products that properly prepare and prime ABS plastic surfaces for painting.

I have one, and wouldn't do it. Just my 2 cents.

This info is straight from an email received from Undercover:
UNDERCOVER PAINTABILITY Currently, our covers are available only in black, hair-cell textured ABS polymer; they can, however, be painted. With this said about paintability, we would like to share the following information: Mechanically: No Issues Cosmetically: Possible Issues Due to texture and reflective values and the fact that smooth and textures will look different, painting is not advised if a perfect match is desired. HOW TO PAINT YOUR COVER: 1). Clean the UnderCover using soap and water. 2). Remove the locks and scuff the entire surface to be painted using either a red scotch-brite pad or 400 grit wet sand paper. 3). Clean the UnderCover again using soap and water. 4). Apply non-sanding primer sealer. 5). Apply your color topcoat. ** No special adhesion promoter or flex additive is required ** I would like to point out, however, that while many customers have indicated a desire for a paint-to-match cover, most have changed their minds after actually seeing the UnderCover lid on their trucks (our cover in most cases enhances the overall truck appearance since it so closely matches the black trim of most modern-day trucks). We hope you will give this consideration in making your decision. Special Note: In the event of a warranty claim that requires replacement of your UnderCover, the Warranty DOES NOT cover any time or materials needed to repaint the replacement! __________________________________ 06'-Ram-Hemi-Pearl Black-Magnaflow-AEM CAI-Diablo CMR Tuned By Mike W. @ tuningsuperstore.com 06'-Magnum R/T-Hemi-Pearl Black-Magnaflow-Diablo Tuned ___________________________ |

I've been in contact with Undercover for the last several days. Long story short, it looks like I'm going to do some testing regarding applying LINE-X Xtra to an Undercover. I'll keep you informed.
Keep in mind that LINE-X Xtra can be color matched to your truck, resists fading, and contains Dupont Kevlar for extreme durability. |

Bigblock... do you need a cover to test on? Seriously! i just bought a used one tonight, and it is not in the best of shape. Worth the $200 i paid for it, but has me thinking about painting it eventually.
