Yes I had one and wouldn't buy another one.

The first one I bought was the Extang Classic Platinum (with the snaps) for my '98 S-10 SS and had that for 3 years with no problems whatsoever. Then I bought a '97 Ram 1500 4x4 SLT and tried the Tough Tonno for the "cleaner" look - no visible snaps and never liked it.

I use my trucks as work trucks and therefore often have to roll the tonno up to fit larger/taller items in my bed. With the snap top, I can roll my tonno up into a nice tight roll, tight enough (about a 3" roll) to sit on top of the forward bed rail behind the cab and not be touched by anything I load right up tight to the front of the bed. With the Tuff Tonno, even on the hottest summer days when the lock-in rails were most pliable, I could never get a tight roll and 6" to 7" was good. In the cold of winter, I'd be lucky to get a 12" roll.

Next, as you may already know, the support rails that hold the tonno up on the bed have two positions: "high" for the warmer days when the vinyl tonno can be stretched a bit when mounting it, and "low" which lowers the support rails a bit to make it a little easier to mount the top on colder days. With the snaps, you can acually reverse the snaps in the rails to make it easier too, because the snaps are mounted on a clip that slides in the rails, but are mounted "off-set" on the clip so they can also be mounted "high" or "low" too depending on outside temperature. So, with the snaps, you have two ways to adjust for fit - the support rail position and the snap mounts themselves. With the Tuff Tonno, only the support rail position.

My point is that with the snaps, you have to pull the tonno tight just enough to get the top snap aligned directly over the rail snap and with a tap of your palm, they pop together. With the Tuff Tonno, it is a continuous vinyl "rib" that must be pulled about a 1/4" beyond the final "fit" position so that it can be lowered and then pushed "up" to engage in the rail. I've bent more than a few fingernails over trying to pull this "extra" amount with the Tuff Tonno. I know what you're thinking, this extra 1/4" cannot be a big deal, but it really can be.

When I bought my '03 Ram 4x4 SLT 4 years ago, I gladly went back to my Classic Platinum with the snaps and again it has worked flawlessly for me. Last week I traded my '03 in for my "new-er" '04 2500 4x4 SLT, I simply kept the same tonno and put it on my '04 and very happy with it!

Anyway, bottom line is that if you will be rolling your tonno up rather regularly or even semi-regularly, the Tuff Tonno doesn't roll nearly as tight and looks pretty ugly when you do roll it up. The tonno with the snaps - for me anyway - is the best way to go. I've never broken a snap and have never had one single problem with it.

Come spring, I give my Extang a good cleaning, use the Extang Tonno Tonic on it, and it looks as good as the day I bought it.

Good luck in your decision and hope this helps.

Yes... I like it alot. To me it does provide the cleaner look your talking about. It does not role as tight as mentioned compared to a snap type, but if you won't be needing to roll it to often then I'd say it is worth it.

Hope you like it!

Thanks guys, i wont really be using it a whole lot, it'll be rolled up maybe a couple of times a year. its more to keep the snow and trash out while its parked while im working and also the previous owner left a few scratches around the front stake pockets so its gonna cover that up too. It seemed like a pretty good price($225) until i can save up for a fibreglass solid piece with an SRT 10 spoiler.
Thanks for the for input! hope its not too bad.

I hope I didn't sound like it's not a good tonno, because it is an excellent cover. In my case I roll it up quite often and the Tuff Tonno just wasn't working for me, but as Kelley said earlier, if you aren't going to roll it very often, it really is a sweet tonno and the look is smooth and clean.

I can't say enough about the durability and quality of Extang tonnos. I've had the one I currently use since '05 and it shows no signs of wear or age. Again, just get some of their Tonno Tonic and you'll love it.

Extang, Truxedo, and Access Cover are all pretty good covers. Take a look at the new Truxedo Deuce, it's different.

good luck with your top
I bought the extang low profile, and absolutely love it. best one I ever had.
It has the velcro and it works great, Had snap ones before and this is tons better. I use my truck for work also. Keep the top clean and use 303 Aerospace protectant on it to keep it conditioned properly, it has the highest amount of U/V protection of any product. Cool

iagree

303 Aerospace Protectant is the best. I use it on everything inside and out.

I'm looking to replace my seven year old soft bed cover for a hard cover in the near future. The soft cover is on it's second truck and still looks good after years outside. 303 rocks. thumb2

Well i managed to get it installed, it sure was a pain in the butt to get stretched into the securing ribs but i managed it by doing it my own way instead of following the instructions. It looks really good but i dont want to take it off till it stretches some more!

Did not like mine, sold it and got a torza hard hat. Looks like a soft Tonneau but uses four clapping handles to hold it on. If the tail gate locks the bed is safe. tri-fold so it is easy to haul and store.
