how do the soft tonneau covers lock onto the side of the bed?

Most do not lock they are clamped down.

well yeah thats what i meant but if they dont have snaps how do they clamp?

Some use velcro and others use plastic clips.

Check out xTang. There are several places that sell them. I was satisfied with the one I had.

I have the Retrax roll up cover now and it is pretty awesome. I've had several but this is what i will always have now. Can't use a lift up cover like a lot of folks and the Retrax will lock anywhere along the length of the bed. You do loose a little bed space but it isn't bad. .jpg) |

Another shot. I ordered it from BigBlock and it was shipped directly to me. Easy instillation.
Oh, it's a carbon fiber cover with a steel canister that it rolls up into. Also the side rails cover the stake holes unless you want them cut out. Most only cover half the hole. .jpg) |

how much did you pay for your cover? the cheapest i saw was the pace edwards cover and it was 730.

I have a Truxedo. The rails clamp to the top of the bed rail (3 per side) and the top rolls into place with velcro on the sides instead of the old crummy snaps that rust and get hard to snap. I paid about $300 from Autoanything.com
Have driven thru some heavy heavy rain on a road trip from Vegas to Kansas with a bed full of luggage. All dry. The three supports roll up with the top for easy use of the bed when you need to carry a load. You know..... gotta make room for the ATV's. Check them out... Here is a pic of mine. I especially like the flat look of mine where you can't see the support bars that often look like a coach wagon cover and yet its a soft top that rolls up.
