I have the full time 4 wheel drive transfer case/AWD. I have noticed that when I come off the throttle the front makes a whining noise. Anyone else have this problem?
I have serviced the front diff and the transfer case, replaced with amsoil fluids and still the whine... Confused
It doesn't do it under throttle only when I am off the throttle or slowing down/braking.
Any thoughts?

I think its something to do with the gears in the transfer case...

It seems to be getting worse. I'm actually thinking of going to the dealer to have it checked superscared. It's under 70k, I just think the local dealer is full of clueless turdheads.

Couldnt be the tires being out of alignment could it? Toed out making them drag? It doesn't pull...

I am not saying that it is normal but my truck has a little wine to it and I only have 20500 miles on mine.

Good to know I'm not the only one who has heard this. I may take it to the dealer and have em check to make sure. Thanks

The only time i have noticed any front end noise around the front diff it turned out to be the front u-joint. If you have cranked your torsion bars any to raise the front i would look at the front u-joint. It is easy to removed for inspection. It will take the dealer all of 5 minutes to check bearings on u-joint.Good luck with what ever it is. i would say it is not normal. goodluck1

Well I finally went to the dealer today to have it checked. I was glad to see some faces there I had never seen before, some of the other service guys were real shmucks. The guy I talked to was real cool and had her on the rack in about 20 min.

Turns out to be a pinion gear bearing, front diff. The warranty will cover it, and they were tearing apart when I left. So that's good news I guess. I'm not out any cash, just a couple days without my truck.

Just a side note. The service manager suggested I use chrysler motor corp. approved fluids at least until the warranty is out. Not Amsoil. He conceded that the Amsoil fluids did not cause the problem, but could create problems with warranty work if they(meaning a different dealership) wanted to be asses about it.

Doug is the service manager at Bennett Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge in Kingsland Ga. and he gets it. Even saw me returning the computer to stock in the parking lot(forgot to do it at home) and just smiled and walked away. I was pretty straight with him too though, it's not like the Superchips made the bearing go out, and I switched to Amsoil to try and stop the noise.

You can use Amsoil and they can not do anything about the warranty as long as you have good records. They just want you to use the Mopar stuff to make money for the dealership...

Doug also mentioned keeping good records, but didn't press the issue. I dont keep records too good, just scribble oil change miles on the hooters calander in the garage. Big Grin

Turns out the dealership has decided to replace the entire front diff. They say it is more cost effective, since the rest of the diff is pretty shot out.

I asked about changing the gears out to 4.56's while they were in there and he said he would work me up a price... I'm sure that will be good news. superscared
I imagine parts(front and rear gears) and labor on rear diff about $800++ Also will void warranty. Just curious.

As soon as I get her home I'm gonna drain and fill with amsoil. Wink Hey, I'm not gonna throw my truck away as soon as the warranty is out.

Ok. So the 7yr/70k warranty has a $100 deductible????! Caught me completely off guard with that one. I didn't even ask about the gear change price. Just glad to drive my truck away noise free.
