Just curious. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of tire and rim options for the RAMS. dunno

17 inch rims with what tire for the front of the truck? I can find a few rear wheel packages in an 18 inch rim.

Do we want 28 inch tall rear wheels with 4.56 gears?

Share your ideas and what is working for you. I like to know what to throw on for the track.

thanks

...not a complete answer, but, some of the trucks out here in California are running 17" rims with 28" tall tires with 4:10's and having good results... personally,I am running 26" tall tires on 17's with my 3:92's. This was only because I got a good deal on my drag radials($150 for a set of Comp TA's barely used),and,I wanted a little more effective gear ratio(shorter tire=lower geared)...my .02

04 Atlantic Blue RC/SB-1500/2wd -4.10's/lsd/17's,Superchips,PSC-001,Ramhammer,Airram scoop,JBA headers,custom y-pipe, Magnaflow muffler(SI/DO)dumped, Comp 260 cam,6.1 springs,6.1 pushrods,180 t-stat,NGK 4306's,Taylor shorty's,Western Chassis 2/4 drop,and a few things not yet installed......

What size D/R's on a 17 inch rim. Does a 275/../17 fit well? I have trouble hooking up with the 275's on the 20" rims. 305's on a 22" rim has given me best results to date, but pretty damn tall.

Thanks for your responce. Anyone running something different?

I run a 295/45-17 out back and 235/65-17's up front on the offroad aluminum wheels. I used to use 245/45-17's up front, but they looked retarted.

Heath, sounds like a great set up. What brands are you running. My big question relates to putting a nice wide tire on a 17X8 inch rim.

The wheels are the factory offroad wheels.

Here's my street setup.. 235/65-17 Toyo Proxes up front and 275/60-17 Toyo Proxes out back..

here's the wheels after I finished painting them..

The 295/45-17 tires are made by Mickey Thompson, and hook great. I don't have any pics of my truck with those on, but here's a video. I'm using the same front wheels/tires as I do on the street..

Nice set up Heath. Thanks for the pic's and video. (12.9 1/4, damn) thumb2
You feed that thing wheaties??? Mostly Stockish........right.

Nice job on the rims.

I thought the tire size would look strange in the wheel wells. Your combination looks killer. I could go that direction.

Thanks a bunch for your input.

Try this video, you can see the wheel/tire combo better in this one.

I appreciate the compliments, but my truck was running like poo yesterday. The best I could get was a 13.11. Should've been in the 12.7-12.8 range...

I think a 28" drag radial with 4.56 gears would be pretty low set up. I've heard some people say they knocked a few tenths by going from 4.56 to 4.10s. I would think that 4.56 with a 28 tire would be too damn low. Maybe with like a 31" street tire those 4.56 gears would be sweet.

I used to use the M&H drag radials which are like 10.5" wide and about 27" tall. They looked goofy but hooked well. I think if I had 4.10 gears instead of 3.55s I would be quicker.

You have a good point Starchief_59. Gears and tire Diameter factors. To date, the best hook I get is from a General Grabber UPH Tire in a 305/45/22 at full pressure giving me a full contact patch at launch.

I'll replace those 305/45's with 305/40's when the time comes. Be nice if we could find a 29", with a wide track for a 17 inch rim.

I don't know if you have an LSD or not but I never had a problem hooking when I ran 14.52 on the M&H Drag radials or when I ran 14.81 with stock tires. NO slippage with either tire. Between the 14.81 and the 14.52 I bought some BFG All Terrains and tried those at the track. I could have probably spun those the entire length of the track. The best I could get with those was 15.4.

The main reason I replaced the stock tires was because they were dangerous in the rain. They hooked awesome on dry pavement and at the track though.

The drag radials seem to be the answer Starchief_59.

Exactly which M & H did you have on what rim? Santa Clause wants to know. 2funny

I put them on a set of stock Dodge Rims. They were 275/50R17s. They look goofy but who cares when you hook perfect everytime???

I got them from Duane for about $450 for the pair including shipping.

Talk about finder gap, DAMN. Like you said, after launch they'll just see the tail lights.

Knowing stock 17's will work is good. Customs aren't cheap.

Thanks for your insight Starchief_59.

It looks goofy but it's really not that bad. They're worth it.

I bought those rims because I just don't like after market rims. I don't like fancy, shiny chrome rims and I didn't want to pay that much anyway. So I bought a spare set of those. I like these because they look like the ralleye rims they put on the Cudas and Challengers back in the day.
