I have a 2007 hemi taht just hit 30,000 mi. I switched to Amsoil for first oil change. i usr it in everything. My concern is just hit 10,000 mi on oil change which is the mileage I choose to change it and I was 1 qt low. Should I be concerned about this? My driving is 60% highway.

I guess you checked the oil level with the engine cold. No sign of smoke at cold startup?

That really isn't bad. I had a friend that was over a quart low, maybe 1.5 or so after 20k+ miles. He was kinda freakin a little. Thought he had no oil when he checked it cause the dip stick doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the oil pan of course, or you would be screwed when it didn't register.

I broke it down for him this way....Okay, so say you burn a quart every 20k miles, or in your case 10k miles. If you had your oil changed every 3k miles, you would only have lost a third of a quart. You wouldn't even know. Using a long life synthetic you notice it more because you run WAY longer on the oil therefore burn it over time and it adds up before you HAVE to change the oil.

Also consider this.....Amsoil has a bonding period too where some oil will bond with the motor/internals preventing dry starts, etc. Some of your quart is probably due to this as well since that was your first change over to Amsoil. I tend to tell people that when they "convert" just so they will check it after time and add a little if needed.

Man I switched to synthetic mobile 1. I was lossing in some oil intervals 3 qts. Did numerous oil tests with dealerships, switched out the PCV valve. And it was still doing it. Recently switched to royal purple and im still lossing it ive ran it 2500 miles and im a qt and half low. I said "F" it now if im gunna be putting 9 qts or more in every oil change im switching back to regular old 10w-30. Least I know I wont lose any and if I do itll cost me 4 bucks a qt not 7 or 8. Not exactly chipper about this subject if you havent noticed.

My truck never used any oil until I switched to Amsoil. It only uses a little, about a half of a quart every 3000 miles. I do not understand why Confused

I do not understand why

Because it can penetrate, and stick to metal better.

I use royal purple too. 5w20. I've been using it since I got the truck and it only had 17k when I did. It's always burned/lost half a quart occasionally. It seems to do it a lot, but it will NEVER lose more than half. So I'm not sure where its going, but it seems like it can't handle having the full 7 quarts in it and it loses half and then its ok. I've had to top it off multiple times between single oil changes and I still do it about every 3-5k. But still never more than half a quart. What does that mean?
