Was thinking at next oil change going with 0-30 but which is better and longer lasting between changes. Amsoil or Royal Purple. Thanks in advance for any info.

do you like a good? catfight

Simple answer, do what YOU want. Both are good oils. Amsoil, if used according to their extended drain instructions will run "longer". but go with YOUR gut, and you can not go wrong either way. thumb2

been using RP but planning on switch to AMSOIL.

some folks here will tell you they still can't believe or trust an oil to work for 25k but there are folks that have no issues with it.

they will be along shortly. Wink

i like RP (handy, can get same day) but don't want to change oil and pay for it 4 times a year. ($7.25 qt) i think Amsoil will still be cheaper even with the shipping...

haven't added it up yet, but will see.

next question is?
Do you believe? 25k on oil change?

I have been on the 0W/30 SSO Amsoil for a while now. Love it. Got 11,000 on the current change and oil looks good, little dark, but they all get dark. I have the dual filter however, so its cleaning the oil much better.

Hello everyone, hope everyone is having a great Hemi day!
I am a little confused about Hemi oil. The manual says 5/20. Another Mechanic told me 5/30 is fine and the local NAPA lady said 10/30. I realize I should do what the manual suggests but I was wondering if anyone has any input.

Best wishes. Joe

5/20 in ALL hemi's equipped with MDS (06 and newer 1/2 tons). Some of the 05 hemi's also require 5/20 as well.. if you have an 05 look on your oil cap, or owners manual if not sure. 0/20 simply means that oil is thinner during cold starts (lubes faster), but still retains the same hot viscosity of 20. 0/20 is perfectly fine as a substitute (and even recommended in COLD climates) for 5/20.

quick break down
03-04: 0/30, 5/30, and 10/30 are all OK
05: 0/20, *5/20 or *10/30 (*check your owners manual to be sure)
06-08: *0/20, and *5/20 are both OK (*synthetic is recommended due to MDS lifters)

I knew I was suppose to use 5-20 but it wasn't available so I have been using 5-30 in my 06. Should I change back to 5-20? Is this causing the mds to "not work"? I haven't really noticed but I keep the radio loud plus the exhuast etc.
