I posted this Q on a myspace forum and was referred here for accurate answers so I'm trusting what you tell me here.

I have an '07 hemi 5.7 gas
During an oil change at the dealership they said that I shouldn't run full synthetic due to the MDS and that it would totally mess it up.

Is it true? I've always run full synthetic but I've never had MDS before.

I don't know why on earth they would tell you that. I've got an MDS Hemi and run Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Whoever told you that is either full of sh*t, a complete moron, or both, and should be beaten severely. Motohead (Royal Purple) and Big Art (AMSOIL) are our oil gurus. They can tell you pretty much everything you need to know about synthetic vs. conventional oils.

On the MDS Hemi Trucks AMSOIL recommends 0W-20. If you use AMSOIL's 0W-20 and have any related problems that points to the oil AMSOIL will warranty it. On the other hand, people are using our 0W-30 with good success.

My favorite is our 0W-30, it just was updated and better now then before.

If your dealership is telling you not to run synthetic, well then....... they're aren't very well educated.

Just remember, not all synthetics are the same and some are much worse then others.

So from what I can tell so far, Amsoil is best but what other brands are still good?
Which ones are definitely bad news?

If I couldn't get my hands on AMSOIL.... and there's no reason why you can't since we can ship it directly to you........

With that aside seeing the latest testing....... I'd probably pick up Penzoil Platinum 5w-30 or Castrol Syntec 0w-30. Both these oils are group 3. Group 3 oil's are petroleums that have been manufactured into synthetics, have synthetic additives, or both. Group 3 oils are prone to sludging and engine deposits.

AMSOIL is a group 4 oil which is PAO. Poly Alpha Olefin is a pure sythetic base stock. AMSOIL will not sludge or cause deposits because there isn't any petroleums in it with the exception of the XL line which is an entry level product.
