What do you guys recommend for an engine that has almost 83K on it to reduce carbon build-up. I just changed out my PCV valve, cleaned the TB, and replaced my EGR valve. I noticed a lot of carbon build-up in these parts. I am currently running Penzoil Platinum in my truck. Been thinking about switching to Royal Purple. I have seen lots of ads about Z-max and have read here about the lawsuits and that it didn't really help. Someone shed some wisdom down on me about this.

A good quality synthetic, such as Amsoil, or RP, changed at proper interval's, will pretty much stop it. This is assuming the motor is mechanically sound, and ya don't do a LOT of short trips. professor

Thanks Jay. I change the oil and filter every 3000 miles. I think my next oil change I will switch over to RP. Is there anything special I need to do when switch brands of oil?

U may want to run a flush first.
