I have a 2006 megacab...on hot/very warm days (lets say about 85) it takes forever for the truck to cool off, even in recycle mode.
Any suggestion or ideas (please no roll down the windows like the dealer) would be appreciated. |

also, I forget to mention that at times when I start up the ac makes sorta a clunking sound...for a second or two then quits...but it doesnt do it all the time...is this normal ??

Welcome to HTC.com Red9350 - we're glad you found us! I take it the dealer couldn't find anything wrong with the A/C system. Does the truck cool down after awhile, or is it just warm air blowing continuously? That clunking sound doesn't sound right at all. I would take her back and have them do a complete A/C check (including monitoring the temp at the vents).

Red9350 The clunking sound you hear could be the ac clutch ingauging. Does your truck have leather? Mine does and it takes forever for the seats to cool off. Try to find your self a digital thermometer and put in the vent to see what your temp is.2004, Black, Quad Cab, Laramie, All Wheel Drive and Sports Package. I have seen lots of information regaurding the Mega Cab online. Several people are complaining about the blowers and air flow. Seems this is a common problem. I have also read about the blower doors getting stuck, breaking and falling on top of the blower motor. I pick up my Mega Cab tomorrow but the loaner I am driving is very noisy when in recirc. Some have reported to remove the blower door. My buddies SRT-10 had the blower door break on him once so I know this can happen. Tinting the windows also seems to help from what I have read online. Hope some of this helps, get online and search for Megacab AC issues.

that happened on my 04 i took it to the dealer and they told me that everithyng was fine, it was just too hot outside. So i got a recharging kit an added a little more refrigerant (no oil)and it's frizing cold now, in a 100 degrees days i get 50 degree air out of the vents , sometimes i just use the defrost position the AC kicks on and off and it's just perfect

The recharge kit would be my first try. Almost idiot proof remedy from walmart. I had a quote for $400 to fix the ac on my camaro....recharged it myslef for $15 two years ago and its still great even in GA heat!
I have noticed though that it takes a while longer to cool of the giant truck cab than it takes for a car... |

I've read alot online about the issue and it seems to boil down to the fan in the truck is essentially the same motor they use for all the rams and it's just not really big enough to cool that large of a cabin like it does the smaller cabins.

no, it's a different noise, the compressor clutch makes a "click" sound this one is a "clunk" i think it's one of the doors closing Black 2004 Qc 4X4, Superchips, comp 260 cam,6.1 springs and pushrods,Taylor Thundevolt 50, Edelbrock TES headers, 3.5" Moroso Spiral Flow/ , K&N C.A.I., Innovate LC1, MarkVIII E Fan, Hellwig RSB, 4 X HID,Daytona running boards and bed accents, lund rool pan, Kenwood KNX7100 nav., R camera, 80G hard drive, 9" flip down monitor, Phoenix gold Tantrum 600.4 for Diamond Audio 4.5" dash and R.F. 5" R doors, Elemental Designs 9.4 for HCCA 6S comps front door, Precision Power DCX 1500.1 for 2 X 10" RE Audio SE, Oxygen Audio 20 Farad cap, Rammat sound deadner, tons of wires |
