I noticed the other day that when I turn the knob that controls if the heat comes out the bottom vent or in front vent etc. That it will not come out bottom. You can turn the knob so it comes out the defrost and bottom or any of the other positions but when you turn it to just come out the bottom it want, it keeps blowing out the front vents. Is there some kind of relay thats not working or could it be the controls itself? Any ideas?

The diverter baffles are usually controlled my vacuum solenoids or diaphragms. I'd start looking for vacuum leaks and/or loose vacuum lines, particularly under the dash (but possibly under the hood, too). I suppose it's also possible that a solenoid has gone bad, or that you have a foreign object stuck in the duct work that is blocking full travel of the baffles.

Had a similar problem and

i am findding that mine is doing the same thing. except that it is slow to switch from recirc air to defrost, if it ever does. kind of a pain!

HemiDave, thats the way mine started. Just slow. Now its all arse backwards. Turn it to one setting and it does something else. Want come out of floor vent by itself is the worst part.

Sorry for the late reply Reeper,I Didnt end up getting it fixed, It seems to have resolved itself switching pretty good now .of course now its out of warranty. looks like it would be a job to do if it ever goes again.There should be a TSB on this problem. booooo! it has gotten worse, now that the colder days have come, this stinks. when i want defrost, i get a hard, cold air on the feet and it stays there...until i keep switching it on and off and to other vents, it eventually falls into place. i am thinking about getting after it here pretty soon. i will let you all know what i find. if anyone else has any recos on this, please help!

How long are you waiting when you change it from floor to defrost? It is a motorized mode door, and it takes it about 5 secs (aprox.) to change modes when you switch them. Also, when you have your mode selector on defrost, there will always be a little bit of air flowing out the floor, same thing when you have it on the floor you will have a little come out the vents. Its an engineering design so that your feet and head dont get upset cus your not getting any heat or a/c.

unfortunately that does not seem to be the case, sometimes it will not switch over at all. it seems to be stuck now in recirc. i read a little more on it and it could be as simple as the door being stuck, or i may have to replace the door actuator ($33). i am going to have to open up the dash and find out. i did read that i should be getting a dtc code if the actuator is messed up, so i need to look at that too. we shall see!! i need the defrost, i can't see in the mornings unless i roll my windows down...too cold for that!!!

Mine has a new twist..it went from taking 5 miniutes to switch through selections to switching right away !! only now have a new problem.. I have hot air on the passengers side and not even close to warm air on the drivers side when calling for heat ??

Yes Russ very weird.. I went through the manual for possible causes none listed for that one . prolly a blend door or a partially blocked heater core?? Im gonna take her apart soon. The drivers side does eventially get warmer if your driving for a hour . mine doesnt want to switch to a new setting easily. if i have it on recirculate-facing me, and i want to switch it to defrost or vice-versa, it wont do it, no matter how long i wait. i turn the knob to completely the other side and then back to defrost and it comes out then. anyone know what that problem is? its still in warranty.

There is a TSB on that including repair procedure only mine is out of warranty now ..going to take mine apart and fix it myself ..should be fun at least I have the manual
