Hello All,
I have started upgrading my engine starting with a cold air kit that I just installed two weeks ago next I am going to install long tube headers. After investigation I have decided on the OBX header kit; my question is has anyone had any issues with running long tube headers and using a computer programmer? I was reading about the Superchips programmer and it mentioned using the programmer along with cold air kit and shorty headers. Any info will be appreciated. |

There will be no ill effects from running long tube headers with a superchips. I think it is preferred actually.
Have fun! This message has been edited. If you search for my "OBX header install" with pics post in this section, you'll find everything you're gonna run into, and the after effects. Been so busy, I haven't had a chance to install the second sim, so it's still throwing the P0420 code... which is ok, just not good for gas mileage, heh!

Thanks for the replies, I know you guys are having some issues with the OBX y pipe but I have a local guy nearby that owns a muffler shop to help straiten out any mess there. My truck does have an aftermarket cat-back already but I will end up changing it anyways. When LA West did the GTX conversions for Dodge part of the package was a Pace Setter cat-back but based off of some sound clips online I like the JBA exhaust note and the Magnaflow. Thanks again

I meant to get back with you but we have had some major ice/snow here lately and had my wireless internet all messed up. I was very tempted to go with JBA but thinking ahead I believe longtubes are better choice for me. I see you still show the programmer for sale, I have tires coming my way so has set back my plans some. One thing to note I am not new to the world of modifying engines but I can say even with just installing cold air kit the 3G hemi responds very well. Some engines out there really wake up when dealing with bolt-ons etc. This is going to be fun but not on my wallet |

Did you look at the Hedmans or Pacesetter longtubes, both are great. Longtube hedders and superchips are probably the best bang for the buck you will definately notice the power difference with that combo and new intake

Hedman headers are pretty nice...what are you looking for in a cam? One that makes a lot of power (you will have to have a separate tuner for the cam to work properly) or one that will gain you power and torque without having a separate tuner?

well i just bought an E-fan and my new headers, plus ill be doing an intake MANIFOLD swap pretty soon, and i was talking with Central Texas hemi last week and i really like the specs of the Crane 216 but i dont want to go with a crane, so im looking for something with the same specs, and i will probably need the tune as well, if you have any info or can hook me up with something id be very interested.

There are several cams that fall within those specs. I will get back with you on that when I get back off vacation Thursday.

Thanks for the help everyone, I have looked at the Hedman headers but I am leaning towards the OBX setup. I asked about the programmer and longtubes in fear of a possible lean running condition. I am glad to hear everyone that has this combination does not have any problems.
Sooner or later I will be looking into a different bump stick also, nothing too radical though. Also I was reading a recent acticle about doing a 3rd gen hemi swap into the old muscle car bodies and the article mentioned that the older 3G's with the cross over style plug wires can be converted so that each coil fires both plugs of the same cylinder. Has anyone researched this setup as to the benfits other than the asthetics? Thanks again. -Aaron |

On the contrary, I believe I'm having the issue of running rich, cause I can smell it. Weather isn't helping either. You will need the sims for this setup. I'm not running both sims yet for the sake of process of elimination. Tried running without any, threw the P0420 code. Now running with one, still threw the code. Haven't gotten around to putting the second one in, so we'll see what happens. No I don't have proof of it running rich other than a code, but when it runs, ESPECIALLY when I start it up, it smells like it's an old carb motor running rich out of tune. ![]() "Ability is what you're capable of doing. Boss,
Keep me posted on what you find out, has your gas mileage dropped considerably? Should see a difference in the negative aspect if running rich enough to smell the fumes. I was curious on the O2 sensor setup that everyone was running on the 04 trucks. I have read back on a lot of past post and I know the P04020 code has been addressed a couple different ways. Thanks for the input -Aaron |
