Will headers and/or a new exhaust improve MPG? or any combination of these? For example, will a new exhaust after the Cat in prove MPG? Confused burnout

With full exhaust, cold air intake, and e-fan I only got 1 mpg better, so I wouldn't buy exhaust for the mpg improvements. Unless you just want an excuse to buy the exhaust then go for it. I would be thinking more for performance and sound rather than gas savings, because it will take a long time to make a return on investment.

07, Hemi, need more power.

Electric Blue, I think your truck looks really sharp, just going by your avatar pic. Those rims really set off the blue. thumb2

iagree I averaged 20mpg during a 50 mile (round trip) Transgo test drive yesterday. I think my mods are starting to pay off.
Now, back to your question.... an exhaust really won't give you better MPG. It will get you noticed though. Wink
The headers will free up some torque and the CAI will give you better throttle response. All these will improve your truck, just not your MPG.
Watch out for the.. monkey

Mods...what mods??

I'm not an engineer (accountant by trade), but I thought if you opened up the exhaust from the exhaust manifolds back with a wider diameter pipe that it would improve the efficiency of the engine by allowing more air to flow through the wider pipe thus improving MPG but also adding torque and horsepower. Which is supposedly most effective with a CAI that is adding more intake air flow.

Also, to be honest with you, I'm going to do it anyway just for the sound, torque and HP!
burnout

Can anyone in the HTC forum world explain the basics of the exhaust engineering? Also why doesn't the manufacturer make these changes to the vehicles especially if it adds even small amounts of MPG? Every truck should be equiped at least with a better CAI!

If you read around this forum you'll see guys are getting 18+ MPG while some are still getting 11-13MPG. I don't get it...people with the same mods have completely opposite MPG readings...might be a little exaggerating going on haha Roll Eyes

I personally have noticed little to no MPG improvement since the truck was stock to now. I have a 3rd strike CAI, airram power scoop, TB spacer and cherry bomb extreme.

A combination of driving styles and truck configurations: TIRE SIZE/GEARING differences, City dwellers vs Rural areas, Temp (hot climates and cold climates), gas quality (10% ethanol, non ethanol mix), synthetic oils and dyno oils, reg cabs and quad cabs, 1/2 ton and 3/4 tons, 4x4 and 2wd, MDS and Non MDS... etc... etc....

There are to many variables that can influence what everyone is seeing to say that everyone "should" be within +/- 10% of each other in fuel mileage. Just my .02 worth. thumb2
My truck for example has gotten 16.4 combination and 18-19 highway mileage since new... small differences can be seen after each mod, but after the new wears off (stop putting the hammer down constantly) the mileage always returns to normal.

In one word... Noise. Some buyers do NOT want to hear anything under the hood, or out the back.

yea thats true...there are always variables involved in MPG calculations. I usually just throw 5 gal in at half a tank to make it "feel" like i'm getting better range and MPG...works for me hahhahaha

I"ve always had a theory that big oil is pressuring automakers to keep the MPG in check so they don't lose any business......its all exxons fault hahahah

Talking about exhaust tech and engineering, there are a lot of factors that play into what u want to run. If the exhaust is too open and uses too big of pipes, the engine will loose low end power, but gain top end. It is all in what RPM range the engine is made to make its best power at.
I run the Hypertech programer with a K&N CIA and a flowmaster dual exhaust. I ramped up the rev limiter on the engine to 6300RPM due to the fact that the duals took a little bottom end away from the truck. But set up now, that hemi will push my 2500 2WD to a 14.8 quarter (If i can get traction)
The factory wont put these goodies on because not everyone wants to hear engine noise all the time.
