OK,... heres the deal,... I am getting ready to go ahead and buy some pacesetter LT's. My question is what am I going to need other than the mopar gasket and stage 8 header bolts. What kind of fabrication and "other parts" am I going to need to do the install. I currently have a flowmaster cat back system on her right now, and I am unsure of what I will need to buy and or have the shop fabricate to tie the new headers in to my current system. Please, any help would be appreciated.

If you're having a shop install it I wouldn't worry about it. All they need is headers, gaskets and bolts.
If you're doing it you'll need misc pieces of pipe with bends and straight too. Some clamps could be useful.

the cats will have to be moved back some, you will have to cut them off to get the pacesetters to fit then have the exhaust shop weld them back in. moving the cats will make the rear o2 sensors move back too. some have been able to make the stock wires extend far enough back to reach the new o2 locations. if they don't reach you can buy o2 sensor extensions or just splice and extend the wires yourself. other than that I don't think you need anything else.

your staying with stock cats right? if you are gutting them or taking them out completely, then you will need o2 sims so that you don't get the CEL for your cats.

Don't bother with the stage 8 locking bolts, waste of money. Just tighten the header bolts supplied warm the engine up for alittle bit, let it cool down and retorque the bolts from the center out. My were done this way and I have not 1 leak at all.

OK,... I just went to an exhaust shop here in town just to see how much they would charge me to tie in the new headers when I get them put on, and he said that longtube headers are illeagle to put on our trucks and that he wouldn't even touch my truck if I brought it in. I laughed and walked out! He said something about the EPA never doing testing on them so they are illeagle! WTF! Confused dunno

True story up until that last sentence. The LT hedders don't have a C.A.R.B certification therefore making them illegal to use on any emission vehicle, the only exception is for off road use only. professor

I've never heard that. I'm pretty sure Cali is the only state that does not allow long tube headers.

Headers are unpredictable. Some vehicles they work with out problems, some have lots, some header brands work well with some trucks, some don't.

I'm sure ya'll all know someone who tells you not to put headers on because they're a pain in the ass. I've never had a problem but I used stage 8 bolts anyway.

Where do all the exhaust shops come up with all these BS rumors about our trucks? Find another shop

You've never heard of C.A.R.B certified, really????? dunno

Any state that has adopted C.A.R.B rules unless a certain item is certified by C.A.R.B it is illegal to put it on an emission controlled vehicle. That be hedders, intakes, and even hi-flow cats.

like I said before, no one around here checks anything for inspection. It's not like they go around looking under your hood for parts that might not be CARB certified. If they do in your state, then that sucks. I know tons of guys that drive around with no mufflers at all and they pass inspection just fine.

Plenty of things are illegal. It just depends on how strict they enforce it. I mean 70 MPH in a 65 is illegal too. You don't hear anyone preaching about driving the speed limit. High speed crashes kill more people than putting on a set of non CARB certified headers.

Unless your state is super strict, who cares if they're "certified" put them on anyway

The whole point of his post was that the shop he took it to wouldn't put them on because there not C.A.R.B certified therefore making them illegal in his state. I have them on my truck yes my state adopted the C.A.R.B rules and regulations, I put them on myself. Does the inspection station look for a certification?? NO, if he puts them on himself he probably won't have any problems, just like around here I tried to find a shop to weld in my magnaflow cats no one wanted to touch it because I had LT headers on and they are not factory.

I am sure in Texas somewhere people go through the same problems, in fact I have read alot of post from texan where they get busted for all sorts of silly stuff that would never happen here. Just cause it doesn't happen in your part of Texas, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Texas is an awfully big state, and the United States is a whole lot bigger, so to say you've never heard of that happening really doesn't say alot, cause it happens.
