I will be ordering some parts next weekend, of which I will be getting a set of pacesetter LT's with the Jet hot coating inside and out. My question is what to do about the Y pipe? Now before anyone else says it I AM NOT DOING TRUE DUALS RIGHT NOW and I have to keep the cats.

So I know Pacesetter has a 3" Y which will hook up nicely with my full 3" exhaust but it would require a bit of cutting to make it fit right as it is meant to remove the cats. I can also get a magnaflow Y for cheap and could probably fab up the rest if needed. The goal I guess is to have a solid 3" setup from the headers back.

So which would you guys do? And if you have a setup like I want to do can you post some pics so I can have an idea of what I need to do?

I put a set of Pacesetter Mid length on my 4x4 Daytona and the cat's did not have to be moved, he just trimmed the exhaust in front of them so they would fit properly without moving them at all.

Have them cut off the factory Y Pipe and remake it properly, the factory pipe - they took both pipes and sqeezed them into a larger opening - inside the 2 pipes look like 2 letter D's. On my truck, the right bank pipe opening was about 1/3 smaller than the left bank - did crappy job - he replaced the Y after making a new one.

Here is the truth of the matter going with LT's and keeping the factory Y and cats is defeating the the purpose of LT's. Get the pacesetter Y and magnaflow cats and do it right the first time. You will not be at all happy trying to fab the factory system to the LT's and it will be a headache.

Guess I've always been a little nervous about it. When I had my old 76 chevy, we did some fairly extensive aftermarket upgrades to it, and while it ran great and passed through the sniffer test with flying colors as soon as they popped the hood they through a sh*t fit as I had replaced a bunch of stuff with newer items. I ended up having to take off all the new stuff and reinstall the factory parts so they would pass it, and then put the new stuff back on after it passed. After 5yrs of that it got really old.

I guess for now I can take the cats off and just do the headers to Y pipe with the O2 sims. I just dont want it to end up failing like the other truck did and have to go back through and install them again.

if all they do is test for codes then they shouldnt ever look under the hood or under the truck.

You can install high flow cats with the headers of just leave them out and run the simms like you said.

I would guess they do a visual check to see if you had cats. I bought two high flow cats 2.5 in diameter then had it go to an x-pipe. You could do the same but with an aftermarket Y. I really wouldnt use the stock cats and y-pipe.
