I know I lost some low-end torque when I added the long-tube headers. They definitely help your top end, but your 60ft time might suffer. Any thoughts from the gallery?

Well hopefully in the 1/8 you're running wide open throttle. I would assume that the headers would help. If your 60 suffers your 1/8 will probably suffer also. At the track you don't really need "low end" torque. It's all high RPMs and wide open throttle.

us heavy QC (or any truck) guys should care as much or more about torque than we should about HP. Torque wins races, not HP. Yes our Hemi's like WOT at High RPM's, but if you can't get off the line, you've already lost. Just my opinion. thumb2

Just a point to ponder about lowend torque. If your worried about torque below 3000 rpms for racing, just go out in the street and watch your tach as you go WOT. your only below that rpm for just a split second, after that it's all about the power in the higher rpm's. At WOT, I'm never below 3000 rpm. The only time I'm under 4500 rpm is probaly less that one second in first gear. My shift recovery rpm is right at 4500 rpm. SO once I floor it the only rpm range I'm using is 4500-6300 rpm. I could have 100 more ft lbs of torque at 2000 rpm, but it would be of no benefit.

That was my point proud hemi!

As for torque winning races, why arent Diesels faster then? My friend has a lot of money into his 98 12 valve and he runs 18s. He built his truck for towing and has tons of torque but it's slower than my stock V6 2002 ram. And my dad's 06 cummins, With almost the same HP and twice the torque, why doesn't he stomp my hemi? It makes it's peak torque at 1600-1800 RPMs but it goes faster at 2800 RPMs where it's making more HP than torque.

I can see the need for torque in towing or climbing hills, but WOT in a straight line you're gunna need that HP once that thing is already moving.

I'm a torque kinda guy myself, that's why I'm going to start off with the 260 cam to compensate the LT's I have now. But frankly, the 2 days of experience I have with my LT's, I'm not noticing any loss below 3500, it's pretty much the same. Above 3500, that's a different story. Nothing but gains.
