Figured I'd share my recent transmission issue. About a month or so ago I was pulling into the parking lot at work and went to maneuver into a spot. When I shifted to reverse to back in the truck wouldn't move. I had to rev it up to get it to move, which was a crawl, until it would suddenly kick in and jump back. Tried moving it back and forth and it continued. Parked it and went to work and tried to do some research on my lunch break. After work, got in the truck, started it, and hoped for the best. Truck moved and drove like nothing had happened. Drove it home without any problems, so chalked it up to a random fluke.

Last week I was leaving the gas station after filling up the beast. When I pulled out into traffic the tranny started slipping BAD. I had to give it almost full pedal to keep going 45, the tranny kept hunting for gears, it was pretty bad. I drove the truck 3 miles back to the house. By then, you could smell nothing but clutch burning. Shut the truck off, popped the hood and pulled the dipstick. Smoke was rolling out of the tube and the fluid was almost brown. Took the next morning off of work, tried to move the truck and, of course, it moved fine. I decided I wasn't going to chance it and drove it to the dealer. On the way there it drove fine mostly but occasionally you could tell it wasn't right. Well, to shorten up this story, it turned out that I had a torque converter failure and ended up smoking 4 out of the 6 clutches. The dealership ended up replacing the torque converter, all clutches, pump assembly, solenoids, basically overhauled the transmission. Say what you want about extended warranties, but mine payed for itself this day. I gladly spent $100 to get what was probably 2000 worth of work done. Just thought I'd add my transmission story.
