I took my '04 Ram to the dealer because of an idle problem. They asked what work had been performed on the truck recently and I told them a tranny flush and filters replaced. I also said I suspected it might be a bad pan filter since it was aftermarket and others on the forum said this could be my idle surge when I come to a stop. The service advisor called and said they flashed the computer for the idle problem and found some metal in the pan and I should rebuild the tranny $3,200 or trade in the truck. He said the torque converter was coming apart. I picked up the truck and took it to my Transmission shop for a second opinion. The story wasn't adding up so the owner of the shop hooked up some test equipment at took it for a ten minute drive. Everything came back good. No codes and no shifting problems. The torque converter was working fine. He suggested I drive it for a week and they would pull the pan to check for metal. Has anybody heard of this happening to our trucks?

if you do have metal in the pan, dont waste your money rebuilding go to a junk yard and get a used 5/45rfe for around 300 bucks if you have expeirience putting in a transmission do it yourself its not that difficult, if not find someone that can like your transmission shop and have them install it.
