I will be going and pulling home a 65 Polara this Thursday using a Uhaul auto dolly the drive (one way), will be approximately 670 miles, so should I use tow/haul when pulling the car?

Thanks,
Tony

The way that I do it is I see what the truck wants. On level ground I leave the OD on as long as the tranny isn't hunting for gears. But in hilly terrains I shift to the tow/haul mode.

O/D works in T/H mode, just no MDS.... so why people bother going back and forth is beyond me dunno

in T/H the trans holds gears longer and you can feel it shift firmer, when the T/C locks in T/H you can actually feel it and it holds it's lock muuuuch longer in T/H mode wich will reduce heat. if you try towing any load at all without T/H on your T/C will be locking and unlocking all the time, and probably stay unlocked for long periods of time resulting in alot of unecessary heat.

IMO if you are towing ANYTHING put it in T/H and forget it. you still benifit from O/D and you are treating your trans much better.

Thanks tigman, that makes sense. I don't have MDS but not that you mention it I have felt OD kick in while on T/H but it does take a while

when accelerating, take your speed 5mph faster than you intend to drive, then back off the throttle just so your not accelerating any more and it will jump right in to O/D. if you let completly off the gas it won't shift into O/D either because it will think you are slowing down and stay out of O/D to use the engine as a brake. this method works on my 06, try it on your 05, see if you get the same results.

BTW i thought 05 was the first year for MDS??? Confused
