dentguy, it doesn't sound right. And being brand new I would get it back to the dealer and get it checked asap.

As for yours houstonhemi i i know if the engine temp isn't up to normal it won't shift into 5th til it reaches temp...And as for not wanting to downshift i noticed if you grandma it and look for good mpg it gets used to that i notice when i race around in it or tow my boat all of a sudden it comes to life and is very responsive and downshifts quicker.........chris

yes i do drive like a grandma, alot of times people get tired and pass me from red lights.

Even at operating temp. on the freeway it wont shift into 5th unless im going atlest 70, i can leave it at 65 or 67 on crusie for ever and i will be over 2 grand in 4th but if i go 70 plus and im lucky it will go into 5th and be a lil under 2 grand. Is this normal for an mds engine.

Thats how mine is. My wifes Durango did it also and they changed the valve body and all was well and her milage went up. Im taking mine back in a wk or so. My service rep said they are ordering a valve body for mine and they will call me when its in. Funny thing about this is I bought these two vehicals in December and they have the same problem. The Durango has 1200 miles and my truck has 2700 miles. They give us loaner cars so its cool. The dealor also asked if we wanted to go and pick out another Durango and my wife said she wanted the one we bought and to just fix it. We have lifetime warranty plus the dealor gave us 100000 mile full bumper to bumper waranty for the 2 vehicals for 500. each.
