I had a small utility trailer hooked up to my truck the other day. I put the tailgate down (or should I say, attempted to put the tailgate down) and it slammed against the handle that lowers the mechanism to support the trailer. GD-MF-SOB. Now I have a dent above the tailgate release handle and below the black factory protector. Chalk that one up to not checking for clearance. doh
I wonder if there's a way to get it out, other than buying a new tailgate.

Nope!! That close to the bend in the tailgate it wouldn't hold. Lots of Bondo would make it look better "for a while", but I doubt that it would hold for long. Never hurts to check with your body shop though.

That is fixable. Any good body shop can get that out with minimal bondo. Improvements in bondo make it as durable as the metal under it.

glad your hand wasn't in that spot either..
Yep, some metal work and some filler goes a long way.

Thats an easy fix. You use a stud gun and weld them on. Then clamp the slide hammer to the studs and bring it back out. I could bring that back to just about perfect that way. It would only need a thin coat to fill the grinder marks.
