I was just quoted $465 to paint an SRT 10 hood. Does that sound right? The hood cost me $635. He said the paint code for my car is complicated (PB5 Electric Blue Pearl), tough to match. And he said it may need to be blended into the fenders? I thought you could just paint the hood and throw it on. The truck is a 2008 so the finish is not old or discolored.

I could get a carbon fiber hood for a little less .

I am not too sure how the rates are in your area, but,it is a good idea to blend the hood into the fenders. I worked in bodyshops for about 3 1/2 years, you would be surprised how many cars with the urethane/plastic bumpers don't match(there painted seperately off the paint line)the body color.

...also,your rate probably includes removing your old hood and swapping out the grille assembly and installing the new one+painting the underside of the hood. out here in my area of california, the labor rates vary from county to county from $70/hr on up to $95/hr for bodyshop rates.

So are you saying you're not happy with the quality???

The shop did say it's lifetime warranty and it was painting the undedrside, 120 degree baking and some other stuff I can't recall.

They did have a new 911 C4s that they just finished in a similar pearl blue and it looked amazing.

The color of your truck would be impossible to just spray the hood and have it match.
It will have to be blended or you will be able to tell. So that adds allot more labor to it.
If you are looking for a Carbon fiber hood check with Duane from 3rd Strike. He was selling his. I'm not sure if it's already gone or not.

Price seem s little high to me, but we have a great shop that isn't all that expensive. I wouldn't think you would need any blending on an 07. dunno
Are they going to keep your old hood? I swaped mine for the paint job. Shop around.
IMHO...stay away from carbon fiber hoods.

I just took a good look at my truck and you are right. The plastic grill bezel on my truck looks a bit darker than the rest of the truck.

If you want it to be PERFECT then that price is fair.
After my wreck I was quoted anywhere from 1300 to 750 to paint my new Strret scene from bumper cover, roll pan and tailgate.
I found a guy that painted all of that plus my new mirrors and my grill suround for 350 bucks and that included the paint.
If I were in your shoes with a brand new truck I would pay the extra and have "0" worries.

Good Luck!

I think some of you guys need to go out and just price the materials along. These new colors Dodge is using are insanely expensive. When I painted my T/A the Gomango. It was $2500 for just the paint reduces and clear.

I paid $150 to a guy I grew up with. VERY good painter too before anyone thinks it was some idiot in his garage. Has worked for body shops for over 10 years easy, and was a master painter for Church Brothers by my house. He is known very well from what I have heard, and I believe it. I am always looking for the best deal. I want people to make money, but not rape me in the process. Win/win situations. Almost $500 is worth looking around IMO.

I knew I should have gotten another black truck Wink. Well I may take the plunge on Monday if everything goes as planned. Thanks to all for all the info.

I forgot to mention I spoke to them today and he said if I paid cash he'd knock a few bucks off.

I want to get this hood whenever I get a truck again....

CF SRT hood

Only dilemma is whether to get the graphite truck I want or a black one. I think it would look good on either, and graphite is easier to maintain.....

I had a CF VIS hood before and I wouldnt buy anything else. They just do it right. Also if you want it painted for a decent price there is MAACO. They all are not that bad. My pal started there until he started his own shop.

Well keep in mind a quart of tec/BASE paint with the thinners, clear coat and hardener costs $224 just for the random NAPA color that closest matched the truck.

Then you consider using their equipment, the space your hood in their shop, and the... yea 50-100 $/hr labor.

Nothing is cheap that you have to pay someone else to do.
