Groupwelcome Did you try rubbing a little wax on them? If it's just a stain it should rub out. Has it bubbled up...rust/oxidation will do this.

Groupwelcome That isn't rust. It is most likely tree pollen. Have a bad problem with that here too, had to have my whole roof buffed out earlier this year.

If you find them not to be pollen. >>>
I have seen very tiny specs of rust looking particles in various areas of my truck, they are hard to see, I was polishing my truck when I saw them, had to individually compound them all out.
most likely they are rail dust particles from shipping that are rusting into the paint job..

I had the same problem on my truck just not very bad, but I washed the truck with dawn dishsoap to remove all the old wax, used a claybar on the whole truck to remove the spots, and then finished with a regular wax. After I was done using the claybar on the truck it looked great and all the spots were gone. Takes basically the whole day for the work to be done, but well worth it.

brake dust, tree pollen, etc.. they are contaminants (i'm pretty sure thats not spelled right) that get under the clear coat. Clay bar is designed to remove it, smooth as ice after clay bar. Only thing that would make it better is if it was automatic

Guys....you're all way off base with this. What you're seeing is called "rail dust." It IS indeed small particles of rust. These particles originate from the car trailer when being delivered from the manufacturer to the dealership with a less than cured clear coat.

Dealerships know of this problem. You basically have 3 choices depending on severity of it...and if not under warranty (dealership WILL fix it under warranty)
*attempt claying first. this will work on less stubborn and deep contamination.
*buy a special "mud" from the dealership...similiar to liquid ice from Turtle Wax.
*wet sanding.

Thats it guys. I would take it in though if under warranty and tell the Service Rep you have rail dust in your clear coat.

Good luck.

well my truck is seven years old and these appeared since i bought it used a year and half ago, i'm pretty sure they're clear coat contaminants. I have heard of that though, I just haven't bought a new truck yet.

Sounds like brake dust to me. I had to clay bar my Dakota every year to get it off until I switched to ceramic pads on the front brakes. My Dakota was bright white so it was especially bad.
Plan to spend a whole day as it is a long and slow process. Well worth it in the end though.
