I'm on my second replacement of the passenger side fog light housing (all are factory Mopar) and the outside plastic mounting post cracks and leaves the light loose in the bumper. They are installed properly, the truck came with them and it only happens on the passenger side. Is it vibration, material defect or ? Is there a metal housing option for Hella's instead of this cheap ass plastic? I'm going to replace it again but I want to at least try to find a fix before I get the same broken results again.
Thanks for your opinion and help! |

Call Art at Henson (800-530-5337) or run up there. He should be able to give you a good answer.

________________________________________________ Will do - thanks! I was just wondering if anyone knew of a better quality replacement over the factory Hella fogs that would fit without any modifications. |

________________________________________________ Well I decided to remove the driver's side fog lamp today as well and take a look. I found stress fractures in the plastic in the same places where the other side broke. I do believe this is due to poor engineering and poor material on the fog light housing. My 'fix' if it works was to get two new housings and coat the ends where the stress fractures have appeared with JB Weld and building somewhat of a cast around them to add strength. If this doesn't work I'm still looking? |

All OEM style fogs (mopar or aftermarket) are plastic that I have found.

________________________________________________ Yes that is what I've discovered as well; maybe I'm just unlucky. If you look at the design it is really weak - I don't know why they didn't use two support holes on the outboard side and add extra ribs to the plastic - oh wait yes I do know - it would have cost an extra $.000001 to do it better. Just hope my fix adds some strength to a poorly engineered mount??? |

sorry about the bad luck. i have had 4 pairs of fogs on various trucks and never once had a problem. uniquecoatings has a set of projector fogs with the halo. you can also some generic ones on ebay but chad is a good guy and he stands behind his products.

All of the direct fit ones that are decent still utilize the same plastic mounts that the factory ones do. Pilot sells some metal bracket versions, but the lights use the H3 bulbs and aren't as big so the light output is less.
Typically what we see happen is something contacts the lights to cause the bracket to break. I can only think of 1 or 2 sets we've replaced that the bracket just seemed to break. Normally a rock takes out the lens before the bracket, but sometimes the bracket does fall victim to it or something else. Keep us informed on what you end up doing with it. |
