The truck is going to the body shop in May to get everything shaved. Handles, antenna, gas door, etc. I found tail light fillers for our trucks at $128 a set and I plan on running the Fire & Ice bar above or behind my roll pan.
My question is on the laws in NYS about this, I can't find anything to prove or disprove the legal issue. I read somewhere that it is legal but the light or lense must be reflective? Can anyone shed some light on this issue or have some documentation? How would I find out? |

I just found this out in NJ. You must have door handles on your vehcile to race (just in case driver is unable to open door due to accident or other stuff)

Same in NY.. I plan on grinding the backs of the handles and using 3M tape to put them on for tech inspection. Should work in theory, I always keep the door open anyway when they are in there.
Thanks Phil, so if the product meets the state's requirements I can substitute the lights for my own? |

and just to add my .02 worth... i dont think the fire and ice bar has ANY reflective material, nor is it DOT approved as a primary form of brake light notification.

Yeah I found a few kits with the "prismatic" lenses or whatever the term is. Have to research this a little before I commit to buying parts.

It's funny how that statute says something about documentation about the proper functioning of the 'said lights'. I just got some aftermarket taillights that came with a letter stating that they were (either)DOT and/or ISO approved and passed the minimum requirements. But then again,I am in California...

Put those little universal DOT approved reflectors that you can stick on trailers on the outside of your fire and Ice.
You then have all the necessary things, I believe. I have my taillights shaved on my dakota, and fire and ice has all the necessary lights but no reflectors. I've never been pulled over for it yet.
