As summer soon approaches, so does the itch to tear into the hemi. With that said, I just got my lowering kit in the other day. Im planning on doing this work the weekend of 4/17. I had lowering shackles on my old chevy but that was it. I have never swapped control arms or done a flip kit. I was looking to get suggestions / comments / tips on this project.

One of the big concerns I am looking for an answer to is: I don't have a spring compressor (I may be able to borrow one, but lets assume I don't have it). What is the best way to remove / install the control arms without a spring compressor?

Anyone out there have this lowering kit? If so, how does the truck sit. I am looking for a leveling effect, and at worst case, a rake to the front. Any comments on this??

See you all at the rallies! beer

I am going to assume you have basic tools and jacks. The front springs do not always require a spring comressor to remove. If you want to play it safe-put your jack under the lower a-arm,loosen the castle nut and pop the upper ball joint loose. Now,let the jack down a little to relieve some pressure on the spring. After that,then,loosen the top shock nut,then the lower shock nuts,then you can remove the shock(that is holding the spring in),then-lower the jack to remove the spring. That isn't the entire procedure for the front spring/a-arm removal,but,i hope that helps you in the spring removal department.

Also-the basic 2/4 kit will generally level out your truck.

Guys,

I installed the kit this past weekend with a friends help. Took us the better part of the day (with off and on breaks). The instructions on this kit are vague. I followed the Haynes manual and it went well. I will have pictures and will try to type up some install points in the next week or so. Overall this is a great mod. The truck looks awesome and handles great!

PS... The truck is a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Daytona Thunderroad Edition. 5.7 hemi, 2WD, Short bed, Regular Cab. Running Royal Purple gear, trans, and engine fluids, DJM 2/4 drop kit, BedRug bed liner, AgriCover vanish tonneau cover, Weathertech floormats.... To come ... Longtube headers, Flowmaster dual 40's (or cherry bombs, haven't decided yet)Paxton SRT-10 Killer super charger and new cam-shaft.

HI;

They sure are, and new in the box, never used.

You can see them in the 'For Sale' section on this site.

Took them in a trade on a set of wheels and tires on our 2005 Quad Cab Hemi 4x4.
