Any of you have any good fixes with some pics of what you did when your 3rd strike tab broke? Mine broke off right at the intake tube. And now whenever I fire my truck up you can hear it "clunk" and then when you are going over a curb, such as into my driveway, the shift of the truck causes it to squeak up agains the fender, and heat shield. Need to figure a way to fix it solid. If I knew that would have been that big of an issue, I would have gone with something else......Just gave me something else to have to work on.... Roll Eyes

Man, that one sure is similar to a 3rd strike....broken tab and all.... Wink Thanks for the pics guys. I think I have it somewhat taken care of for now. I figured out it was squeaking on the rubber seal on the bottom of the hole the intake goes through. I just cut out the bottom strip and replaced it by sticking a rubber weather strip to the bottom of the intake that doesn't squeak when it shifts. Seems to have solved the issue, but I would like to make it more solid eventually replacing the broken tab essentially.

I used 2 very small and strong springs. I drilled into what was left of the tab and hung the spring on the bolt the tab goes to.
The third strike unit is the same as the 60 dollar unit I got on e-bay. I bought a second one and had a guy weld a brace under the tab. the tab eventually broke in a diferent location, that is why I now use the springs to support it.

I went to Home Depot and got a 3 or 4 inch id (can't remember diameter) rubber pipe connector from the plumbing department and 2 stainless pipe clamps for about 7 bucks. Slit the rubber with a razor, install over cai where it goes thru the box, and clamp. The thickness of the rubber is almost a perfect fit in the box hole.

That is what I was considering.....just wasn't sure it would "wedge" it in there.....thanks for answering that. I might just do that.

Great idea! Works well and actually looks like it is supposed to be there. I bought one that came with the clamps for $4.99. And so everyone knows....it is 3". 5 min. to install.

So what have we learned in 2 millennia?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."
- Cicero - 55 B.C.

Apparently, nothing......

"How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young,
compassionate with the aged,
sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and the strong.
Because someday in life you will have been all of these."

George Washington Carver
