Ok, I'm new here so go easy on me. I have read quite a bit on all the opinions about CAI's and seems like it's more of what you like as opposed to which one is best. My question is since my truck is a 4x4, which CAI would lend to better protection from dust and water? I won't be doing hardcore offroading, but I do hunt and fish, so will take a few nasty dirt roads every now and then. I appreciate the help in advance!

One more question: I've seen many people do the MIT tube, but performance wise it won't do what a cai will...is this correct?

I can't comment on other makes of cai's, but the aFe that I installed on my '09 uses the stock bottom half of the intake box, and seals against the hood on top. I decided on this one for the same reason your asking about. Water and excess dirt should not be an issue with the aFe.

I went with Tru-Flow a.i.. It retains the stock air box but replaces the air tube to the intake. Plain on getting a jet scoop also.

That is an intake but not a true CAI. A tru CAI will go down into the fender a good bit further. I have the MIT from airaid and it does help. The most restrictive part of the HEMI engine is the HEMI hat. The airaid replaces that and it retains the stock airbox.

Did you notice any power difference with just the MIT tube?

Honestly I did notice a little. But, it wont just make you wet your pants. The exposed filter kind will make it sound good and breath better. I would just stay away from the ones that go down into the fender or dont have some kind of box.

Not a true cai? it keeps the stock intake scoop that runs from the fender to the box, anything that hangs lower it seems would just suck up hot air?

A longer CAI tube will run down to the front of the wheel well liner where cooler air is. But that may not be good for off-roading due to danger of sucking in water.

Exactly, A true CAI runs lower than the fender inlet, and pulls in the cold air while moving. While sitting still a CAI doesnt help anymore than a short tube or box. As someone said before our grills are so big that we get a lot of air in there anyway. The reason I said to not do a true CAI is water getting in them and causing hydrolock. AEM actually makes a piece that stops water from making it all the way to the TB. They had a problem because the intake they made went so low that they sucked in water.
Hope that helps.

Well HB you out typed me LOL. iagree
