Has anyone installed the Volant CAI system and how has it performed? I'm considering one for an '04 HEMI. Was originally looking at the K&N system but I don't like the open air element because the engine compartment gets relatively dirty...especially during snow/salt filled Chicago winters.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

I had a Volant on my 04 HEMI Ram and loved it. If I were to buy a CAI for any vehicle Volant would be it.

Had a Volant for two years it wasnt my first choice but my friend talked me into. It it was a very well built and nice looking CAI it did give me a bump up in performance, but I later found out that the Hemi hat was a restriction. So I sold it and bought an Mopar CAI which seems to me performs a little better if I had to do it all over I probably wouldnt bought it dont get me wrong its a good intake, just if you dont care about cosmetics under the hood ditch the Hemi hat and get a differnt intake but if you want to keep the hat then it might work out for you but its a proven fact the Hemi hat is a resrtiction and I want every bit of performance I can get

Silveradohunter,

Thank you for bringing to my attention the Volant system still uses the resonator box. I was under the impression it goes directly to the throttle body. Might consider the Mopar system or the K&N CAI...but I really hate the filter element is open to the engine compartment. Mine gets dirty just from regular use.

Dont get me wrong the Volant is a good intake and yes the cold airbox did kinda seemed to keep the filter a little cleaner and the manufacturer said that the box kept the air cooler dunno I think it kept the filter cleaner than cooling the air myself but like i said the Hat is a restriction but if you are concerned about dirt n dust the Volant design is a peace of mind

The original Volant CAI for the 5.7L was the same style as the 4.7L where the HEMI Hat was removed( or at least people were using the 4.7L one ). I remember posts from people here( the original HTC before it moved )running a Volant CAI on their 5.7L's with no HH.

I can't find it to post the info but it was either on Volant's site or a retailer's site quoting Volant where it said they actually got better power numbers with the HEMI Hat on.

The Hemi Hat is actually not a problem.

I bought the Volant in early 05 so I have the original with the carbon fiber lookalike lid and everyone that I knew who had it had to run it with the hat on and I was told that the hat was a restriction by many on this very site thats why most popular companies hook up straight to the throttle body I saw pics inside the hat it does look pretty restrictive to me dunno why Volant choose to keep it dunno well goodluck with your choice CAZ I hope it works out keep us informed thumb2
