NOTICE:
BFI owners. Please disregard this post. The filter is a different size and it will NOT RUB. Yesterday I took my filter off to clean it and noticed a nasty rub mark on the cone. Obviously, it has been rubbing on something so I decided to investigate. It did not take me long to discover that the filter was rubbing on the wires that go to the windshield washer holding tank. There are actually 4 wires total and one rubber hose that go from the passenger side fender well to the tank. 2 operate the motor and 2 are for the low washer fluid light. The filter rubbed the insulation clean off of 2 of the those wires. (Sorry for the unclear photo, it's the best I could do with a cameraphone) Hopefully, you can see the bare wire. If you feel the filter, it is just like a K&N with a screen and that screen will act as a rasp if it comes into contact with those wires. I ended up splicing a new, longer wire in and I came up with a quick fix as well. I took a piece of 1/2 hose, cut it about 8 inches long then cut that hose right down the middle and slid it over all the wires. I guess wire loom would also work as well. It's not touching any more, but if it ever does, the hose will take the punishment and not the wires. Just a heads up. This message has been edited. I gaurantee you are going to love it. Thanks Dave, I haven't seen one yet. Just assumed it was the same diameter. EDIT...The BFI filter does not rub. This message has been edited. Congrats,Looks awsome!. Now I want to paint mine black.
Wait until the computer adjusts to it... Did you clean your throttle body and reset your computer? Question, were the wires close to touching your Air Filter or were you good to go? I cleaned the throttle body somewhat...I didn't reset computer, I figure it will learn on it's own.
I'll have to check the wiring tomorrow and see if anything is touching. I need to adjust the fit some tomorrow anyway. |

Same thing happens on the ebay/Mopar/3rd strike when the mounting tab breaks,.. it rubs on the lower part of the heat shield under the filter. I tweaked mine so it lays on the bottom part of the hole through the heat shield from the intake.
2006 1500 QC TRX4 Offroad edition, My mods are located on or in my truck,.. I have come to the conclusion they work better there than posted on here. |
