I have been looking and thought i had decided on getting a Vararam for my 07 Ram 1500 4x4 Sport with tow hooks.
I just looked at the front and see that the tow hooks connect with a solid bar across the front opening, anyone having this set up run into that problem and have a solution. I dont want to take out the hooks, may need to look at different CAI huh.
Let me know,
Thanks

I have a vararam on my 07 4x2 and i love it the only thing that concerns me with your 4x4 is if you use it as a 4x4 muddin, water puddles ect if so, dont get the vararam look at a bfi or a diffrent tube and filter set up dodnt want to suck any thing up into the motor and messing it up

I will admit my 4x4 is not a mud/off road truck only off roading I do is pulling my toyhauler out in the sand or some winter snow driving, for me not much chance of water.

I have the tow hooks too and I have considered mounting the scoops to the top of the bumper, behind the grill and in front of the radiator. I think this could be done well with a little thought and a trip to the hardware store. My only concern would be bending the tube too much to restrict air flow. That's just my 2 cents though.

is the plate bolted on if so test fit the scoop you just might need to remove the plate and bolt the hooks back on seems like that would work

the tow hooks and the bar are one unit and looking at it the bar is mounted behind the front bumper and all the rest of the front end, making it a real pain to even remove it. so looks like i will probaly be looking at a different intake system, just to make it easier.

I spoke with a guy from Vararam today and he suggested swaping out our tow hooks for the better HD tow hooks. They are available on the HD diesel trucks. He called it an upgrade because the HD tow hooks are stronger and mounted better, no steel plate in between them. I cant verify this, but I plan to look into it further. He said that using alternate mounting locations would hamper performance, so disregard my previous statement. Who knew? dunno

You should be able to remove that without taking the bumper off. I just looked at mine and it unbolts through the front, should be fairly easy to remove. Of course I have an 05, it may be a different setup.

I just had 3rd strike get back to me and I am going to go with a 3rd strike CAI instead for the ease of install.

Wish my truck hadnt come with those hooks, I will never use them. Confused

Never say never. Just about the time you take them off and throw them away, you'll need them. Mad

I can't bring my self to throw mine out either. Good Luck and Happy Motoring burnout

your right, so I am going to leave the hooks alone and have just ordered today a 3rd strike intake from Duane,
thanks for all the help, just note to others look before you order a vararam, as I was on the hook (ha ha)to buy but thought I would check out the front to see where it went when i noticed the hooks location,
Anyway thanks for the help all, i am going to spend the money i saved on the intake on Amsoil to switch over all my fluids Smiler
