With the towing cap of a 1/2 ton QCSB 4x4 hemi ram being 8500 lbs,an enclosed trailor weighing in at 3500 + car @ 4000 coming to 7500 lbs,how bad is this on the tranny and rear being an enclosed with the wind resistence slamming the front?Anyone ever do this or not advise?I have an open trailor.and the availability to use a brand new enclosed, but have been being told even though the tow cap(power) will do it,it will be bad on the tranny, rear and brakes.Looking for input. Thanks

That's a big azzed car Eeker or does that include ancillaries like tools and such. My 73 Olds Delta Conv. is 4250# and on an open trailer (UHaul)I could definatley feel it back there but I had no prblems, but it was only a short trip to the other side of town and back to get some top work done

Your engine/transmission should be able to handle it, but with that much weight you would DEFINITELY want to make sure your trailer has electric brakes. This would mean you would need a trailer brake controller for your truck too.

Gar hit the nail on the head. You would not be able to stop that much weight without trailer brakes, but I am sure it probably would come with some. It may have an inertia system on the tongue or you may have to install the brake system. It should not damage your truck. I run Amsoil in all my mechanical components, inclusive of brake fluid, so I would not worry towing that much. It would just use a lot, I mean a lot of fuel.

Trailer brakes, and Royal Purple or Amsoil in the diffs and all should be good! If your really going to tow alot I'd get the PML Deep tranny pan and temp guage for the transmission. And use RP or Amsoil in there too!!!

I tow occassionally with no issues!

If you are worried about the wind factor coming over the cab and adding drag you can go with a campershell or a wind foil deflector to ad in getting teh sind up over the trailer. my parents use the wind foil when carring their fifth wheel, it seems to help.

w.d. hitch and bags help keep the head lights on the road and not in the trees. I have not had any trouble with my enclosed. You will feel the cross winds.

WD HITCH, AND WORK ON PLACEMENT OF THE CARGO IN THE TRAILER, I KNOW MANY GUYS WHO HAVE 28 AND 30' TAGS THAT LOAD THEIR CAR OR TRUCK BACKWARDS TO HELP BALANCE THE TONGUE WEIGHT, BUT I HAVE PULLED AT 28' WITH NO WD HITCH AND WITH AND NEVER WILL DO IT WITHOUT JUST FOR THE FACT THAT ITS SOO MUCH ON THE STOCK SUSPENSION, IF YOU DONT LIKE HOW IT DOES WITH THE WD HITCH THEN GET THE BAGS OR HELPER SPRINGS! MAKES TO WHERE YOUR NOT SHELLING OUT MONEY GALORE! WD HITCH IS SUPER EASY TO INSTALL AND THE MOUNTS BOLT ON THE TRAILER FRAME! VERY SIMPLE DESIGN THAT WORKS GREAT, WFI WHEN HOOKING IT UP, DROP THE TRAILER ONTO THE BALL, LATCH IT, THEN JACK THE TRAILER BACK UP TO ABOVE EMPTY ON YOUR TRUCK, AND THEN GO AHEAD AND PUT THE CHAINS FROM THE BARS ONTO THE FRAME MOUNTS! ALOT EASIER Big Grin
